Abstract

Fever in children is not a disease, but a symptom. To deal with fever in children, appropriate self-medication measures are needed by the mother. Self-medication is an activity of self-medication starting from the selection and use of drugs, both modern, herbal and traditional medicines by an individual to treat a disease or symptoms of a disease. This study will discuss the application of the Spearman Rank correlation test to find out several factors that affect the level of mother's knowledge of self-medication in treating fever in children.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of consuming iron supplementation tablets (TTD) along with milk on hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls, using the Chi-Square statistical analysis approach. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was applied. The subjects consisted of 58 respondents, divided into two groups: intervention (TTD + milk) and control (TTD only). Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after the intervention and categorized as "increased," "decreased," or "unchanged" for the purpose of Chi-Square analysis. The Chi-Square test was conducted both manually and using SPSS version 25. The manual calculation, based on the formula , yielded a value of approximately with 2 degrees of freedom. The SPSS analysis showed a Pearson Chi-Square value of 35.714 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between the type of intervention and the change in hemoglobin levels. These findings support the notion that consuming iron supplements together with milk may inhibit iron absorption, resulting in a decrease in hemoglobin levels. Thus, the Chi-Square analysis demonstrates the categorical effect of the intervention on hemoglobin status.

Abstract

Self-medication for cough is a common practice among non-health students. Inappropriate self-medication behavior may increase the risk of medication errors, highlighting the need for a statistical approach capable of modeling behavioral categories simultaneously. This study aimed to analyze cough self-medication behavior based on knowledge level using multinomial logistic regression among non-health students. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 233 non-health students. The dependent variable was cough self-medication behavior categorized into several levels, while the independent variable was the level of knowledge. Statistical analysis was performed using multinomial logistic regression with maximum likelihood estimation, with the lowest behavior category set as the reference. Model significance was assessed using the likelihood ratio test, and model performance was evaluated through pseudo R-square values. The results showed that knowledge level was not significantly associated with cough self-medication behavior. The likelihood ratio test yielded a p-value of 0.100, indicating that the overall model was not statistically significant. The pseudo R-square value of 0.012 suggested that knowledge level explained only 1.2% of the variance in cough self-medication behavior. The estimated odds ratios indicated a tendency toward a lower likelihood of inappropriate self-medication behavior among students with higher knowledge levels; however, these associations were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). In conclusion, although knowledge level demonstrates a theoretically plausible direction of association, it is not a dominant determinant of cough self-medication behavior among non-health students. Further studies are recommended to include additional variables such as attitudes, prior medication experience, and access to health information to improve the explanatory power of the model.

Abstract

Female adolescents' compliance in consuming Iron-Folic Acid (IFA) tablets is a crucial pillar of school-based anemia prevention programs. This clinical decision is often assumed to be associated with inherent personal characteristics or social conditioning within their learning environment. To statistically analyze the contribution of school sociodemographic factors (actual age and classroom assignment) as behavioral determinants of iron supplementation compliance among female adolescents. A quantitative study using a cross-sectional design was conducted on 167 female students in grade X at a secondary educational institution. Compliance behavior was measured using a structured Guttman-scaled questionnaire (score 0–4). The association hypothesis was evaluated using the Bivariate Pearson Chi-Square Test () at a significance level of . Univariate analysis showed that age data variance centered on the 16-year-old group (71.9%) and the classroom sample distribution was homogeneous and proportional (21–25 students/class). Bivariate analysis revealed that the Chi-Square coefficient for the actual age variable was  with a p-value of 0.080 (). Meanwhile, the coefficient for the classroom assignment variable was  with a p-value of 0.093 (). School sociodemographic characteristics (biological age and classroom clustering) are statistically proven not to act as significant determinants of iron supplementation compliance behavior. Students' compliance is purely driven by internal cognitive factors (individual anemia knowledge, which was highly significant in the primary test, ) rather than external demographic attributes. Interventions are recommended to focus on massive and uniform cognitive education.
