Abstract

This paper analyzes the website localization of Dove Indonesia’s website. The study, then, analyzes the adaptation and the translation technique of the translation part that includes the home page and its first next link of the website. In analyzing website localization, the theories that are used are the theory of website localization by Pym (2012) and the translation technique by Molina and Albir (2002). This study found that the website is highly localized with both adaptation and translation. Adaptation includes changes in data and time format, legal inventions, and content. The translation itself uses single and duplet translation techniques. Single technique includes amplification, borrowing, compensation, discursive creation, generalization, literal translation, modulation, particularization, reduction, and transposition. Duplet technique includes compensation and borrowing and reduction and amplification. However, the mostly used translation technique is a single technique, literal translation.

Abstract

In translating, difficulties often emerge during the translation process. In translating the book entitled Hidden Potential written by Wendy Pope from English to Bahasa Indonesia, Mona Baker’s translation strategies are used to overcome the difficulties that emerge in the translation process. The strategies used are as follows: translation by a more general word, translation by a more neutral word, translation by cultural translation, and translation by omission. The strategy of translation by illustration is not used since this book contains only words without any pictures or illustrations.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the language style based on diction employed by CNN Indonesia in their advertorial articles. The writer analyzed two advertorial articles from the national and lifestyle sections using three indicators from Keraf's language style theory (2006): vocabulary, sentence length, and sentence structure. Additionally, the study was supported by theories of syntax, inversion, and sentences. Conducted using the qualitative method, the study revealed that CNN Indonesia employed all three language styles in their national and lifestyle advertorial articles. The national advertorial article mostly used the formal language style, while the lifestyle advertorial article mostly used the informal and conversational language style. Moreover, the findings showed similarities and differences in the language styles used by both advertorial articles. Some indicators of language style were prominent in one section but not in another. The language style used was influenced by the topic and targeted audience.

Abstract

This study is about translation techniques used to translate the humor in the Fresh Off the Boat series subtitle from English to Indonesian. This study intends to determine the proper technique that can be used for every kind of humor yet preserve its funniness. The writer used Molina and Albir's (2002) theory of the eighteen-translation technique and Shade's (1996) theory for the types of humor. This study applied the qualitative method. The data that has been collected found only seven types of humor out of the twelve types of humor theory by Shade (1996). Additionally, from the eighteen techniques stated by Molina and Albir (2002), the translator only used six techniques to translate the types of humor in the Fresh Off the Boat series subtitles. The most suitable technique to translate humor is literal translation, while the most unsuitable technique is borrowing.

Abstract

Translators employ strategies as not every word has its direct equivalence in another language. This study aims to examine the strategies employed in the translation of dialogue texts and narrations found in Raider of the Copper Hill into Indonesian. Furthermore, the writer employs a qualitative approach using Baker’s (2018) strategies to examine each dialogue text and narration in the comic and see whether the strategies succeed in maintaining the meaning. Baker’s (2018) strategies the translator uses to translate the dialogue texts, namely: translation by a more general word, by a less expressive word, by cultural substitution, using a related word, by paraphrase using unrelated words, and by omission. To translate the narrations, the translator employs the same strategies except the less expressive word strategy. However, some tones and humor contained in the texts get altered.

Abstract

This study discusses the translation strategies employed by the translator in translating the web-series of Komedi Kacau (Comedy Chaos). The translation strategies used in the web-series were qualitatively analyzed using the theory of Mona Baker (2018). The translation strategies employed by Baker (2018) were Equivalence at Word Level which consist of Morpheme and Lexical Meaning. Also, the other translation strategies proposed by Baker (2018) were Equivalence Above Word Level which consist of Collocation and Idioms. The result of the translation is affected by the strategies and the visual context. Although there are some errors in the translation, the translator can still maintain the meaning of the original text and maintain the context spoken by each character in the Komedi Kacau (Comedy Chaos) web-series.
