Abstract

To support the successful development of oil palm nurseries, planting media fertility is needed. Ultisol planting media requires special treatment to improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil. One of the activities to improve the fertility of ultisol soil is by applying organic fertilizer. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of TKKS Taspu compost fertilizer on the growth of oil palm seedlings and to determine the best dose of TKKS Taspu compost fertilizer for the growth of oil palm seedlings. The research was carried out from November 2023 to February 2024 at Telanai Pura and the Basic Laboratory of Batanghari University, Jambi. The environmental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one treatment : TKKS Taspu fertilizer (t) with four dose levels, t0 = 4 kg Ultisol/polybag (control), t1 = 600 g Taspu TKKS fertilizer + 3400 g Ultisol/polybag, t2 = 700 g Taspu TKKS fertilizer + 3300 g Ultisol/polybag, t3 = 800 g Taspu TKKS fertilizer + 3200 g Ultisol /polybag. The observation data was analyzed using Anova and the DNMRT test at a level of 5%. The parameters observed were ; plant height, stem diameter, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, seed quality index and water content of the planting medium. The results of the variance analysis showed that the application of Taspu TKKS compost fertilizer with t3 treatment (800 g Taspu TKKS fertilizer + 3200 g ultisol/polybag) was the right dose to support the growth of oil palm seedlings.

Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to get the best source of cuttings in the production of pepper seedlings. This research has been carried out in the Teluk Raya village of Kumpeh Ulu Subdistrict Muaro Jambi Regency. Research conducted for 3 months beginning in January to March 2015. Environmental complete random design was applied in the research.  The design of the treatment is the  different cuttings source, as follows: P1: a climbing vine cuttings, P2: fruit vine cuttings, P3:  hanging vine cuttings,  P4: ground vine cuttings. Each treatment was repeated four times. There are 10 pepper cuttings for each experiment unit, so that there are 160 uniform cuttings which needed in the research. It shold be taken 8 cuttings from the existing 10 cutting. The results of this research rejects the null hypothesis (H0) and receive alternative hypothesis (H1) that pepper seed growth was differ among the source of cuttings. The study also get that  climbing vine cuttings was have produce the best pepper germ and significantly differentl fruit vine cuttings, ground vine cuttings and hanging vine cuttings. The predicted superior of pepper cutting sourcing from climbing vine is the high carbohydrat and balance existing of endogen auxin and citokinin hormon, so that show balance of bud and root growth. Those growth both bud and root certaintly support the cutting growth. Keywords: plant reproduction, vegetative propagation, and hormones to grow AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan sumber stek yang terbaik dalam produksi bibit lada. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan di Desa Teluk Raya Kecamatan Kumpeh Ulu Kabupaten Muaro Jambi. Penelitian dilakukan selama 3 bulan dimulai pada bulan Januari sampai Maret 2015. Rancangan lingkungan yang digunakan penelitian ini adalah rancangan lingkungan acak lengkap. Rancangan perlakuan adalah sumber stek yang berbeda, sebagai berikut: P1 : Stek dari sumber sulur panjat, P2: Stek dari sumber sulur buah, P3: Stek dari sumber sulur gantung, P4: Stek dari sumber sulur tanah. Setiap perlakuan yang dicobakan diulang sebanyak 4 kali. Sedangkan setiap satu satuan percobaan terdiri 10 stek lada, berarti stek lada yang seragam yang dibutuhkan dalam percobaan ini berjumlah 160 setek. Dari 10 stek lada pada percobaan, dengan 8 sampel stek. Hasil penelitian ini menolak hipotesis nol (H0) dan menerima hipotesis 1 (H1) bahwa pertumbuhan bibit lada berbeda antar sumber stek. Penelitian ini juga mendapatkan bahwa stek sumber sulur panjat menghasilkan bibit lada terbaik dan berbeda nyata dibandingkan stek sumber sulur buah, sulur tanah dan sulur gantung. Dugaan yang mendukung kebaikan stek lada asal sulur panjat adalah kandungan karbohidrat yang tinggi dan adanya keseimbangan hormon endogen auksin dan sitokinin sehingga terjadi kesimbangan pertumbuhan tunas dan akar. Pertumbuhan tunas dan akar inilah yang memacu pertumbuhan stek lada. Kata Kunci : Perbanyakan tanaman, pembiakan vegetatif, dan hormon tumbuh

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving coffee husk compost on the growth of citronella (Cymbopogon nardus L.) plants. This research was conducted in Kuala Tungkal, Tungkal Ilir District, West Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province, from December 2020 to March 2021. Analysis of compost nutrients was carried out at the Laboratory of the Jambi Agricultural Technology Research Center and measurements of root wet weight, shoot dry weight and root dry weight were carried out at the Basic Laboratory of Batanghari University Jambi. This research was conducted using a randomized environmental design (CRD) and treatment design for coffee husk compost which consisted of 4 levels of treatment, namely k0 : 3 kg of soil media without treatment (control), k1 : 15 g of coffee husk compost + 2,985 g of soil media, k2 : 22.5 g coffee husk compost + 2.977.5 g soil media, and k3 : 30 g coffee husk compost + 2.970 g soil media. The results of the analysis showed that the application of coffee husk compost had a significant effect on the parameters of root wet weight, shoot dry weight and pH of the growing media but had no significant effect on the parameters of the number of tillers, number of leaves, root dry weight and root crown ratio

Abstract

That's the important thing in areca nut nurseries  is fertilization. The long term use of inorganic fertilizers can have a negative impact, the best solution to reduce the use of inorganic fertilizers is to use organic fertilizers . This study aims to determine the growth response of areca nut seedlings (Areca catechu L.) with the application of liquid organic fertilizer supermes on ultisol soil in polybags. This research was conducted from May 2024 to August 2024 at the BBI horticulture location. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor, namely POC supermes, namely: s0 (control), s1 (2ml / l water), s2 (4ml / l water), s3 (6ml / l water), s4 (8ml / l water). Each treatment was repeated 3 times, so that there were 15 experimental units, each experimental unit consisted of 4 polybags, 3 polybags as sample plants. The parameters observed included plant height (cm), stem diameter (cm), dry weight of the crown (g), dry weight of the root (g), ratio of the root crown and seedling quality index. The results showed that the concentration of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) supermes 8 ml / l of water (s4) gave the best results, an increase in plant height of 10.20%, stem diameter 9.73%, dry weight of the crown 23.33%, dry weight of the root 57.76, ratio of the root crown 42.85% and seedling quality index 25.37% compared to the control.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and interaction between coffee bean size and roasting time on the organoleptic quality of brewed Liberika coffee powder. This research was conducted in Betara District, West Tanjung Jabung Regency and Basic Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Batanghari University, conducted in November 2024 - January 2025. This study used a factorial complete randomized design, the first factor of liberica coffee bean size consisted of 3 levels, namely size S (k1), M (k2) and L (k3) while the second factor of roasting time consisted of 2 levels, namely roasting time of 25 minutes (w1) and roasting time of 30 minutes (w2), so that 6 treatment combinations were obtained, where each treatment was repeated 3 times, resulting in 18 experimental units. The study's variables included chemical characteristics, including acidity (pH), and organoleptic characteristics, such as colour, flavour, aroma, bitterness, and preference for brewed coffee powder. The findings demonstrated that the pH of coffee powder and the organoleptic qualities of colour, aroma, taste, bitterness, and liking of brewed coffee powder were not significantly impacted by coffee bean size or roasting time. The results of organoleptic testing of untrained panelists gave the best impression of liking to brewed coffee powder with coffee bean size L (k3) and roasting time of 30 minute.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the growth eye stump of rubber after laying away in coconut fiber media. The design of this study was Completely Randomized Design with laying duration in coconut fiber medium (P) as a treatment which consisting of 7 treatment levels e.g. P0: 0 day; P1:5 days; P2:10 days, P3:15 days; P4:20 days, P5: 25 days, and P6: 30 days storage. The result of this research showed that the growth of eye stump rubber after laying away on the coconut fiber medium was significantly influence the percentage of several parameters e.g. :starting of stump sprout, sprout height during storage, plant height, stem diameter, leaf number and leaf area total for each treatment except for the parameter percentage of eye stump rubber which not active yet.  The freshness and the seedling viability of rubber plant originating from the eye stump rubber after laying away for 0-30 days in coconut fiber can be maintained. The highest growth was observed in the 20 to 30 days of laying away.Keywords: stump sleeping eye grafting, storage, coconut huskPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan stum okulasi mata tidur Karet (Hevea brasiliensis Muell Arg.) setelah mengalami  penyimpanan pada media sabut kelapa.  Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan perlakuan percobaan lama penyimpanan stum okulasi mata tidur dalam  media sabut kelapa (P) yang terdiri dari 7 taraf perlakuan yaitu penyimpanan:P0: 0 hari; P1:5 hari ; P2:10 hari, P3: 15 hari ; P4: 20 hari, P5: 25 hari, dan P6: penyimpanan 30 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pertumbuhan stum okulasi mata tidur karet (Hevea brasiliensis Muell Arg.) setelah mengalami penyimpanan pada media sabut kelapa berpengaruh nyata terhadap peubah persentase stum okulasi mulai bertunas, tinggi tunas selama penyimpanan, tinggi tanaman, diameter batang, jumlah daun dan luas daun total untuk setiap perlakuan kecuali pada peubah persentase stum okulasi mata tidur yang belum aktif tumbuh. Kesegaran dan daya tumbuh bibit tanaman karet yang berasal dari stum mata tidur setelah disimpan selama 0–30 hari dalam media sabut kelapa dapat dipertahankan. Pertumbuhan tertinggi untuk setiap peubah yang diamati terdapat pada lama penyimpanan 20 hingga 30 hari.Kata kunci : stump okulasi mata tidur, penyimpanan, sabut kelapa

Abstract

The quality of Liberica coffee powder brew is influenced by the fermentation and roasting processes of coffee beans. This study aims to determine the effect of the interaction of fermentation methods and roasting duration of Liberica coffee beans on the chemical characteristics and organoleptic quality of the brew. This study was conducted in Sungai Aji, Sungai Terap Village, Betara Subdistrict, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency (harvesting, sorting, pulping, drying, hulling, and drying), while roasting, grinding, sieving, testing the pH of ground coffee, and the organoleptic quality of ground coffee brew were carried out at the Basic Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Batanghari University, from March to August 2025.This study used a factorial completely randomized design (CRD). The first factor is the fermentation method (f) consisting of 3 levels, f0 = without fermentation; f1 = dry fermentation and f2 = wet fermentation. The second factor is the roasting duration (p), consisting of 2 levels including p1 = 20 minutes and p2 = 30 minutes. The variables observed were pH, color, aroma, taste, bitterness and preference of the brew. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and continued with the DNMRT test at α level of 5%. The results showed no significant interaction between the fermentation method and roasting duration on pH, color, aroma and bitterness of the coffee powder brew but there was a significant interaction on the parameters of taste and preference of the coffee powder brew. The fermentation method treatment had no significant effect on the pH, color, aroma, and bitterness parameters of the brewed coffee grounds. The roasting time treatment significantly affected the pH, color, aroma, and bitterness parameters of the brewed coffee grounds. The panelists' organoleptic test results showed the highest color scores for treatments f2 (3.35) and p2 (3.53), the highest aroma scores for treatments f0 (3.55) and p2 (3.68), the highest preference score for the combination of treatments f2p2 (4.03), the highest bitterness scores for treatments f0 (3.33) and p2 (3.59), and the highest preference impression for the brewed coffee grounds using the dry fermentation method and a roasting time of 130 minutes (f2p2) with a value of 14.16.

Abstract

Cultivating areca nut plants on ultisol soil requires organic and inorganic fertilizers addition to ensure optimal growth. This study aimed to determine the growth of areca nut seedlings using goat manure and NPK fertilizer in polybag of ultisol soil. This research was conducted at Jl. Sebapo, Mestong District, Muaro Jambi Regency, from September to December 2024. The materials used in this experiment were 3-month-old areca nut seedlings from Tri's nursery, ultisol soil, NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer, organic goat manure from Green Exotic Farm Tambak Sari, 4 kg polybags, and water. The tools used are vernier calipers, leaf color charts, hoes, meters/rulers, machetes, scales, stationery, buckets, measuring cups and ovens. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor, namely a combination of goat manure and NPK fertilizer 16:16:16 with 6 levels, namely, k0: Without giving NPK fertilizer and goat manure k1: NPK fertilizer 10 g (100%), k2: Goat manure 30 g (100%), k3: Goat manure 22.5 g (75%) and NPK 2.5 g (25%), k4: Goat manure 15 g (50%) and NPK 5 g (50%), k5: Goat manure 7.5 g (25%) and NPK 7.5 g (75%). This experiment consisted of three replications, each with three sample plants. The application of goat manure and NPK fertilizer to ultisol soil significantly affected plant height, stem diameter, crown dry weight, and leaf color.However, it had no significant effect on the dry weight of the roots and the ratio of the root crown. The application of goat manure and NPK fertilizer in the k4 treatment (15 g goat manure and 5 g NPK/polybag) gave the highest average results in the parameters of plant height (67.54 cm) increased by 21%, stem diameter (16.52 mm) increased by 27% and dry weight of the crown (12.03 g) increased by 44% when compared to no treatment (k0). Abstract

The deterioration process in seeds cannot be prevented. One effort to reduce the rate of deterioration is to optimize storage conditions and the appropriate storage period. Optimal storage conditions and the appropriate storage period can maintain seed quality during storage and growth after storage. The study aimed to obtain data on the rate of seed deterioration and growth of citronella plants after storage. The study was conducted from April to August 2025 in the basic laboratory and experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Batanghari University. The study used a completely randomized design with one factor. The treatment design was the storage duration (h, days) of citronella seeds as follows: h0 = not stored, h1 = 4, h2 = 8, h3 = 12, and h4 = 16 days. Each treatment was repeated 3 times, resulting in 15 experimental plots. Each experimental plot contained 10 seeds, resulting in 150 citronella plant seeds. Observations during storage were the percentage of fresh seeds and the percentage of growing seeds. Observations after storage were plant height, rate of emergence of tillers, number of tillers, clump circumference, fresh weight of herb, and fresh weight of roots. The observation data were analyzed using analysis of variance. If there was a significant effect, it was continued with Duncan's Advanced Test at α level of 5%. Based on the research and data analysis, it can be concluded that the treatment of the duration of storage of citronella seeds had a significant effect on clump circumference, but had no significant effect on plant height, rate of emergence of tillers, number of tillers, fresh weight of herb and fresh weight of roots. The longer the citronella seeds were stored, the growth rate tended to decrease. This is caused by a decrease in seed viability due to the aging process, dehydration, or physiological damage during storage.

Abstract

The aims of this research were to determine the chemical characteristics and organoleptic quality of chocolate paste with different roasting temperatures using a coffee roasting tool. The environmental design used in this study was a Completely Randomized Design Treatment design, namely different roasting temperatures, with 4 roasting temperature levels, as follows: t1 (130oC) ; t2 (140oC); t3 (150oC );  and t4 (160oC). The duration of roasting was carried out for 30 minutes. Each treatment was repeated 3 times so that there were 12 experimental units. The variables observed in this study were chemical characteristics including water content dry cocoa beans, acidity (pH) and fat content of roasted cocoa beans, while the organoleptic qualities observed were: color, aroma, taste, bitterness, and preference for chocolate paste. The The results showed that: different roasting temperatures have a significant effect on the fat content of the roasted cocoa beans, but are not significantly different on the pH of the roasted cocoa beans : color, aroma, taste, bitterness and preference for chocolate paste. The sensory test showed that panelists  preferred aroma, preferred taste, level of bitterness was slightly bitter and level of preference was liked were 130oC-160oC.
