Abstract

Rice washing water (commonly called air leri) is a household waste that is often discarded, even though it can be used as a liquid organic fertilizer. This water contains a significant amount of essential nutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), vitamins, and minerals that support the growth of vegetable crops. When consumed by humans, it may also improve overall health. The objective of this community service activity is to enhance public knowledge about the benefits of rice washing water for plant growth and human health, to encourage behavioral changes in environmentally friendly waste management, and to improve community skills in making and using rice washing water as a liquid organic fertilizer for home gardening. The method of implementation includes three main activities: (1) education and outreach on the benefits of rice washing water for plant growth, soil fertility, health, and environmental sustainability; (2) hands-on training to teach the community how to collect, store, and apply the water efficiently to vegetable crops; and (3) mentoring, by assisting residents in applying rice washing water to home garden plots. The results show that 75% of participants experienced increased understanding and skills in managing household waste into eco-friendly agricultural inputs. There was also increased interest in home gardening. This activity contributes to food security, family health, and the reduction of household waste.

Abstract

High dependency on seasonal harvests and limited access to quality food are challenges for the agrarian community in Tanjung Baru Petai Village, Ogan Ilir. This community service program aims to overcome these challenges through shallot cultivation in home yards, focusing on the empowerment of the Women Farmers Group (KWT). The method used is a participatory approach which includes socialization, technical training on shallot cultivation in polybags, the application of simple technology (organic compost), and continuous mentoring. Through the training, the community, especially housewives, gained independent cultivation skills on limited land. The program is expected to result in self-sufficient shallot gardens in residents' yards, improve skills, and strengthen household food security. The sustainability of the program is supported by the formation of home-yard farmer groups and the involvement of the village government for the replication and diversification of horticultural crops.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the diversity of arthropods on peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.) grown on land treated with organic fertilizer. The research was conducted from July to December 2024 at Jalan Sukarela KM 7, Palembang City. Data collection for arthropods in the plant canopy was performed through direct observation, involving the counting and identification of arthropods visible on the surfaces of leaves and stems, without the use of nets. For soil surface observations, the pitfall trap method was employed. The observation parameters included the identification of arthropod types and the calculation of the diversity index at both the canopy and soil surface levels of the plants. Arthropods found in the peanut plant canopy belonged to 5 orders and 10 families, while those on the soil surface comprised 7 orders and 9 families. The diversity index in the plant canopy was 2.12, categorised as medium, whereas on the soil surface, it was 1.57, classified as low.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendapatkan dosis pupuk mikoriza  dan interval penyiraman yang sesuai untuk meningkatkan produksi tanaman jagung manis (Zea mays Saccharata Sturt.). Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan di salah satu lahan petani di desa Gasing, Kecamatan Talang Kelapa, Kabupaten Banyuasin, Sumatera Selatan dari bulan Agustus sampai November 2024. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan rancangan percobaan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Faktorial (RAKF) dengan dua faktor. Faktor pertama yaitu dosis pupuk Mikoriza (M) terdiri dari M0 = kontrol (tanpa mikoriza) ; M1 = 5 g/tanaman ; M2 = 10 g/tanaman ; M3 = 15 g/tanaman dan faktor yang ke dua yaitu interval penyiraman (P) terdiri dari : P1 = 1 kali seminggu ; P2 = 2 kali seminggu ; M3 = 3 kali seminggu. Peubah yang diamati yaitu berat tongkol berkelobot (gr), panjang tongkol (cm) dan produksi perpetak (kg). Secara tabulasi Interaksi perlakuan pupuk mikoriza dosis 15  g/tanaman dengan interval penyiraman 3 kali seminggu menghasilkan  produksi  tertinggi  yaitu 5,97 kg/petak serara dengan 15,92 ton/ha.This study aims to determine and obtain the appropriate dose of mycorrhizal fertilizer and watering interval to increase the production of sweet corn (Zea mays Saccharata Sturt.). This study was conducted in one of the farmer's fields in Gasing village, Talang Kelapa District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, from August to November 2024. This study used an experimental method with a Randomized Block Factorial Design (RAKF) with two factors. The first factor is the dose of Mycorrhizal fertilizer (M) consisting of M0 = control (without mycorrhizae) ; M1 = 5 g/plant; M2 = 10 g/plant ; M3 = 15 g/plant and the second factor is the watering interval (P) consisting of P1 = 1 time a week ; P2 = 2 times a week ; M3 = 3 times a week. The variables observed were the weight of the husked cob (gr), cob length (cm) and plant production per plot (kg). Tabulated interaction of mycorrhizal fertilizer treatment with a dose of 15 g/plant with a watering interval of 3 times a week resulted in the highest production, namely 5,97 kg/plot or 15,92 ton/ha.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of planting distance and liquid fertilizer dosage on the growth and production of shallots (Allium ascalonicum L). This study examines the effect of a combination of planting distance and dosage of liquid organic fertilizer based on animal waste on the growth and production of shallots (Allium spp.). The study was conducted using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK) with two main factors, namely planting distance (D1: 20 × 20 cm, D2: 15 × 20 cm, D3: 10 × 20 cm) and dosage of liquid organic fertilizer (J0: control, J1: 250 ml/liter of water, J2: 500 ml/liter of water, J3: 750 ml/liter of water). The variables observed included plant height, number of leaves, bulb weight per plant, and bulb weight per plot. The results showed that increasing fertilizer dosage and wider planting distance significantly increased plant growth and production. ANOVA showed that planting distance and fertilizer dose had a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, tuber weight per plant, and tuber weight per plot, but the interaction between the two factors was not significant. Application of high dose fertilizer (750 ml/liter) and wider planting distance (20 × 20 cm) resulted in optimal growth in all variables.

Abstract

Astuti et al, 2018. Utilization of Organic Waste in the Making of Bacillus thuringiensis-based Bioinsecticides as Agents for Control of Caisim Brassica juncea Pests. JLSO 7(2):136-143. Bacillus thuringiensis was one of the entomopathogenic bacteria that can produces toxic crystal proteine (ᴕ-endotoksin). The use of bioinsecticide as a biological agent in pest control was one component of integrated pest control (IPM). The aimed of this reseacrh was to know the population of pests in plants and the percentage of damage to plants that exist in each treatment. The research was conducted in a vegetable garden in the Banyuasin district in November 2017 until January 2018. The research method used a randomized block design with 5 treatments and 4 blocks. The treatment was Bacillus thuringiensis KJ3R5 cultured in coconut water and rice washing water  (A), Bacillus thuringiensis LC2 cultured in coconut water and tofu wastewater (B), commercial Bacillus thuringiensis (C), inorganic insecticide (sidametrin) (D), and water as control (E). The variables observed were arthropod populations on the canopy and ground surface of choy sum (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis or Brassica chinensis var. parachinensis) plants. The results showed that 4 species of pests i.e. Pyllotreta crucifera, Spodoptera litura, Plutella xylostella, and Helula sp. Treatment with Bacillus thuringiensis LC2 (B) resulted in reduction of plant damage by 61%.

Abstract

Chili (Capsinum annum) is a horticultural plant that is useful as a spice in the kitchen, besides containing vitamins that are good for health. This study aimed as an effort to make jengkol skin agricultural waste useful by adding chicken manure organic fertilizer at different doses with the potential to increase growth and yield of chili plants on acidic dry land. The field experiment was conducted on the land of the Food Crops Agriculture Office, Gandus District, Palembang from March to May 2022. Randomized factorial group experimental design with 2 factors, namely the first factor: the dose of Jengkol Peel Biochar fertilizer (B) consisting of: B1 = 5 tons/ha, B2 =15 tons/ha, B3=25 tons/ha. The second factor: the dose of chicken manure (K) consists of: K0 = 0 (without fertilizer chicken manure), K1 = 10 tons/ha, K2 = 20 tons/ha, K3 = 30 tons/ha. Growth and yield were observed by measuring plant height (cm), stem diameter (cm), number of productive branches (branches), chili weight per plant (g), chili weight per plot (g). The best trial was obtained in the combination treatment dose of 15 tons/ha of jengkol peel biochar fertilizer and 30 tons/ha of chicken manure, which was the best treatment for the growth and production of chilies, with a yield per plot of 343.5 g/plant or equivalent to 10.99 tons/ha.

Abstract

Controlling Plant Pest Organisms (OPT) remains a major challenge for farmers in Tanjung Dayang Selatan Village, Ogan Ilir Regency (OI). Continuous use of chemical pesticides has the potential to negatively impact the environment, health, and reduce the quality of agricultural products. Therefore, more environmentally friendly alternatives for controlling PESTs are needed through the use of natural materials, one of which is lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) as a biopesticide. This educational activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills in utilizing lemongrass as a natural biopesticide. The activity method is carried out through counseling, demonstrations of biopesticide production, and direct practice of using lemongrass solutions on agricultural crops. The results of the activity show an increase in community understanding of the benefits of lemongrass as a natural pest control and an increase in farmer interest in applying biopesticides to their agricultural land. The use of lemongrass as a biopesticide is considered effective, easy to make, economical, and safer for the environment than chemical pesticides. With this education, it is hoped that the community will be able to implement sustainable agriculture and reduce dependence on synthetic pesticides for PEST control.
