Abstract

The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) can protect against exposure to the COVID-19 virus, but on the other hand it causes an increase in the generation of plastic waste. The amount of COVID-19 PPE waste is estimated at 1.6 million tons per day with masks or face shields worth 3.4 billion per day. The urgency of handling PPE waste is not only due to the volume of waste, but also the nature of the virus that survives on solid surfaces. This publication aims to provide a systematic review of PPE waste management in Indonesia, both from health facilities and households. Good practices from abroad are explored to see the potential for developing PPE waste management in Indonesia. The search results provide 38 articles, namely 21 national articles and 17 international articles. PPE waste management in Indonesia and abroad in general is separation, disinfection, collection/temporary storage, transportation, and final disposal (incineration/sterilization/landfill). 3R practice improvement (reuse, reduce, recycle) can create sustainable PPE waste management, for example, the use of environmentally friendly materials, reuse PPE after sterilization to increase lifetime or conversion of PPE waste into raw materials.

Abstract

Work engagement is an essential indicator for educators to be immersed in their work tasks and to ensure well-being at work. The various tasks and limited time given to educators, especially in higher education, can reduce work engagement. On the other hand, service industry organizations are experiencing a new behavioral phenomenon known as workaholism. This is characterized by employees’ habit of working excessively and compulsively. However, to our knowledge, no study has yet analyzed how workaholism in higher education correlates with educators’ working engagement. Therefore, this study aims to understand the effect and correlation between workaholism level and working engagement in higher education. The 41 lecturers from the Faculty of Industrial Technology at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta were asked to complete a questionnaire measuring workaholism level (DUWAS) and working engagement (UWES-9). The Pearson analysis of these two variables shows a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.565, p < .001). Moreover, the ANOVA analysis shows lecturers with workaholic behavior have significantly greater engagement levels (p < .05) than those without. This implies that a working environment should be created to promote healthy workaholism among higher education educators to maximize their engagement levels in their work.

Abstract

Abstract

There is a lot of research being done on detecting human emotions. Emotion detection models are developed based on physiological data. With the development of low-cost wearable devices that measure human physiological data such as brain activity, heart rate, and skin conductivity, this research can be conducted in developing countries like Southeast Asia. However, as far as the author's research is concerned, a literature review has yet to be found on how this research on emotion detection was carried out in Southeast Asia. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a systematic review of emotion detection research in Southeast Asia, focusing on the selection of physiological data, classification methods, and how the experiment was conducted according to the number of participants and duration. Using PRISMA guidelines, 22 SCOPUS-indexed journal articles and proceedings were reviewed. The review found that physiological data were dominated by brain activity data with the Muse Headband, followed by heart rate and skin conductivity collected with various wristbands, from around 5-31 participants, for 8 minutes to 7 weeks. Classification analysis applies machine learning, deep learning, and traditional statistics. The experiments were conducted primarily in sitting and standing positions, conditioned environments (for developing research), and unconditioned environments (applied research). This review concluded that future research opportunities exist regarding other data types, data labeling methods, and broader applications. These reviews will contribute to the enrichment of ideas and the development of emotion recognition research in Southeast Asian countries in the future.

Abstract

Social interaction is one of the factors that determine a person’s spiritual growth. The social interaction style of today’s youth has been influenced by postmodernism. Postmodernism has changed the way humans socialize to become fluid as a result of the emphasis on relativism. One of the countries affected by postmodernism is Taiwan. This is shown by the development of the cohabitation lifestyle and the legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan as part of the relativism and human rights championed in postmodernism. Thus, postmodernism can seep in and threaten the spirituality of Christian students from Indonesia in Taiwan. GBI Taiwan Zhongli responded to this threat by formulating a discipleship model called R-HEALS (Reached, Healed, Equipped, and Heals). This study aims to explore the experience of R-HEALS discipleship participants and its impact on them in facing postmodernism. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The research data was taken from two students who have followed the R-HEALS discipleship model for at least one year. It was found that the doctrinal-experiential aspect of the R-HEALS discipleship model helps young people resist the current postmodernism, even in a liberal country like Taiwan. It can be concluded that R-HEALS can help the church in contributing to restraining the postmodern lifestyle of young Indonesians studying in Taiwan.
