Abstract

The research on formulation and evaluation of lypholized tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L) as lip balm has been conducted. The objective of this research was to investigate the physical stability of lip balm formula from lypholized tomato that could enhance the lips? humidity. The formulation of lip balm was made into three concentration i.e 1%, 3%, and 5%. The physical stability evaluations that were performed before and after stress condition. Which is included organoleptic, homogeneity, and melting point test. The stable formula was then evaluated as skin moisture enhancer using skin analyzer. The results of this research showed that all three formula was physically stable. On the third formula (lypholized concentration of 5%) had the highest percentation of moisture enhancement with the significant difference among the three formulas.

Abstract

Sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra) and Kersen leaf (Muntingia calabura L.) are used as traditional medicines that have anti-inflammatory activity. This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of a combination of ethanol extract of sea cucumber sand and Kersen leaves on the decrease of edema in the feet of rats that have been induced with 1% carrageenan. The rats were then divided into 5 groups and each group consisted of 3 rats. Group 1 as positive control, group 2 as negative control, group 3 as extract combination 1: 1 (200 mg / kg body weight: 200 mg / kg body weight), group 4 as extract combination 1: 2 (200 mg / kg body weight: 400 mg / kg body weight) ), group 5 as extract combination 2: 1 (400 mg / kgBB: 200 mg / kgBB), and each group is given orally. At 2: 1 EK has the same anti-inflammatory effect as positive control with% DAI, which is 4.84%. Whereas at EK 1: 2 with% DAI 4.24% and EK 1: 1 with% DAI 1.81%.

Abstract

Mulberry (Morus alba L.) leaf has been used as a traditional medicine for treatment of some tropical diseases and also popular using for silkworm feed. On this research, anti-inflammatory and wound healing activities of the bark extract has been investigated in vivo. The bark was extracted with three organic solvent in a different polarity to carry out a group compounds in n-hexane extract (EH), Eto-Ac extract (EE), and EtOH extract (EO). Anti-inflammatory was investigated on inflammatory mice induced by 1% carrageenan. Among the extract (200mg/kg BW), EE showed strongly decrease inflammation by 42% than the other extract and stronger than the positive control, Na-diclofenac. Further investigation on healing effect of wound and burn injury which was tested at concentration of 1% topically to each extract. All the extract significantly showed healing activity, among them EE was observed as the stronger one while slightly less than the positive control. This result indicated that the most active compounds on anti-inflammatory and healing wounded was extracted with ethyl acetate that could be used for drug discovery.
