Abstract

Transitioning from the Indonesian curriculum to the Merdeka Curriculum is challenging for teachers. Teachers must be more creative in classroom learning through integrated learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). However, teachers' knowledge and skills regarding STEM learning still need to be improved, so it is rare for teachers to use STEM learning. Therefore, efforts are made to overcome these problems by providing training on science learning using a STEM approach to support the implementation of the Merdeka curriculum. The training participants were 35 science teachers of SMP Bontang and the place of service at the Autism Center, Bontang City. This STEM learning training was carried out on 14-18 February 2023 with as many as 17 hours of lessons, and it aimed to make teachers more familiar with STEM learning in the Merdeka curriculum and able to apply the STEM approach in learning. The result of the training is that teachers can compile effective STEM learning tools following the learning outcomes in the Merdeka curriculum on water filter materials. This can be seen in the response results from training participants reaching 90% good and opinions from participants that the training is very useful and more familiar with STEM learning.

Abstract

: This community service aimed to strengthen teachers' competencies in dealing with curriculum changes from the 2013 curriculum to the independent curriculum through training in the application of change management. This service activity is carried out using an asset-based community development (ABCD) approach, strengthening participants' potential for responding to change. The training participants were 35 elementary school teachers in Samarinda City. Training activities were conducted at SD Negeri 007 Samarinda Ulu, Samarinda City. This activity was carried out on Saturday, July 29, 2023. The activities involved providing training to strengthen teacher competencies by explaining the application of change management in dealing with curriculum changes. Data on training outcomes were obtained through the Teacher Attitudes Towards Change Scale (TATCS) questionnaire and questions regarding participants' perceptions of the training. Participants' answers were analyzed using keywords and word co-occurrence analyses. The training strengthened teacher competence in the era of an independent curriculum by increasing teacher belief in the importance of curriculum change, confidence in applying the Merdeka curriculum, and support for curriculum change. These results indicate the urgency of conducting similar training periodically to strengthen teacher competence in the adaptation process using an independent curriculum.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores how preservice physics teachers think about the role that scientists play in the teaching and learning of physics. Our participants were 33 preservice physics teachers in their first year participating in a scientist partnership program through online meetings. Participants' responses were collected through an essay questionnaire, and the result was analyzed with co-occurrence network analysis. Our research shows that preservice physics teachers have a positive perspective on scientists. The primary role of a scientist is related to a person with sufficient knowledge and opinion about physics. Their role is also related to the experiment and research result. Moreover, their innovation and discovery of new physics-related things also became their central role. After preservice physics teachers interact with scientists, they have higher motivation to learn physics. Our findings suggest that the activity facilitating interaction with professional scientists must be encouraged during the preservice physics teacher program.
