Abstract

Character education in Indonesia is needed, especially at the elementary school level. Various methods are carried out by the school and even carried out together with the community, especially parents to help children have good potential from a young age. In responding to the importance of character education, character education is needed through learning in elementary schools to create students who have a nationalist, responsible, critical, creative and innovative attitude. This study aims to determine the meaning of character education, goals and functions so that it can be used through the civics education learning process. The benefit of this study is that it can be used as a reference material to make it easier to recognize and shape the character of students. The method used is a literature study by collecting some of the information that has been read. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of character education is still very much needed with the citizenship education subject being able to develop character in accordance with the norms and values of Pancasila.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Differences in learning experiences between groups provide a basis for examining how interactive digital storytelling operates in IPAS learning for fifth-grade elementary school students. This study was directed at analyzing the effect of this medium on students’ collaboration skills by comparing achievement before and after learning between the treatment group and the control group. A total of 86 students participated in this quantitative study using a quasi-experimental approach and a nonequivalent control group design, with 43 students assigned to each group. Collaboration skills were measured using a 20-item questionnaire on a four-point Likert scale administered as a pretest and posttest. Data processing included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk test, Levene’s test, an independent samples t-test, N-Gain, and Cohen’s d, with the assistance of SPSS. Initial equivalence was reflected in mean pretest scores of 31.16 for the experimental group and 31.26 for the control group (p = 0.872). Following the learning intervention, the respective mean posttest scores reached 68.51 and 45.19 (p = 0.000), with an N-Gain of 0.76 categorized as high for the experimental group and 0.28 categorized as low for the control group. Cohen’s d of 2.10 fell within the very large category. This pattern indicates that the change was not limited to final achievement and that interactive digital storytelling was associated with greater improvement in students’ collaboration skills within the IPAS learning context examined.
