Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate social actors' representation on the inauguration of Acting Governor in West Java 2018, from Ahmad Heryawan (Aher), representing the Right Islamic Party, to Commissioner General Mochamad Iriawan (Iwan), representing the Nationalist Party, in the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) Theo van Leeuwen model (2008). Method of data collection were the method of reading, namely the intensive and comprehensive reading. We read the social actor’s representations that were represented in mass media online: Republika.co.id during 3 days of news, on 18, 19, and 20 of June 2018 where there was a lot of polemics over the Irawan’s inauguration. The Republika.co.id was more inclined than supported the inauguration, though according to Indonesian Government, it was legal because in that moment Irawan was as Main Secretary of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas), not as an active Chief of Police in Special Capital Region, Jakarta. The data were obtained by copying-paste technique. The analytical methods used were descriptions, interpretations, and explanations. The results of the analysis showed that all pro-government social actors, both in government and "outside the government", supported Irawan's inauguration as acting governor of West Java. On the other hand, social actors who did not support the inauguration are reported as social actors who obey the constitution, educate the people, encourage honesty, uphold democracy and so on. That was why, Irawan's inauguration as acting governor in West Java was reported negatively, such as unconstitutional inauguration, fooling people, violating democracy, public deception, and so on. The difference of the social actors’ representation above was undeniable due to differences in the ideology (nationalism versus Islamism) and political interest ahead of the presidential election last year, in 2019. Thus, it proves that the study of CDA perspective can show us the relationship between language use (discourse), ideology, ‘hidden’ power and also discourse and social practice.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The Paris Agreement is an international accord that aims to limit the rise in global temperature and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The term les changements climatiques is a key concept that appears repeatedly in the Paris Agreement (2015). In the official Indonesian translation (Persetujuan Paris), this term is rendered as perubahan iklim (“climate change”). This topic is of particular interest because the term is not only scientific in nature but also carries strong political, policy-related, and ideological dimensions. Therefore, its analysis can be approached from three domains: linguistic-ecological, political, and socio-cultural. The occurrence of the term les changements climatiques in the French text, especially in the preamble and in sections acknowledging threats, obligations, and vulnerabilities, is significant. In the Indonesian translation, the term is consistently rendered as perubahan iklim. Based on the data collected, the term appears predominantly in the policy context, referring to state responsibilities, obligations under the convention, and related matters. It also appears in the ecological context, addressing threats to the environment and scientific urgency. Its presence in the socio-cultural category is also evident, although less frequent compared to the other two domains.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the concept of a redesigned gamified daily journal as an innovation in language learning and character formation that aligns with the characteristics of Generation Alpha. The background of this research stems from the growing dependence of children on digital technology and online games, which has reduced reflective habits and weakened character values in primary education. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a conceptual study design, involving analytical synthesis of theories and previous studies on gamification, reflective journals, character education, and 21st-century learning. The findings reveal that integrating game elements such as points, levels, challenges, badges, and feedback into daily journals can enhance students’ intrinsic motivation, reflective awareness, and collaboration between teachers, students, and parents. The redesigned journal transforms routine reflection into a more engaging, contextual, and meaningful experience, bridging character habituation and language learning with children’s digital culture. The study concludes that the gamified daily journal has strong potential as an innovative educational medium to strengthen character education while improving students’ motivation and literacy skills in the digital era.
