Abstract

The Giam Siak Kecil—Bukit Batu Biosphere Reserve (GSKBB) is a UNESCO-designated protected area in Riau Province, Indonesia. Located within Bengkalis and Siak Regencies, GSKBB is renowned for its diverse ecosystems, including coastal wetlands, mangrove forests, and peatlands. To understand the economic viability of fishing activities within this biosphere reserve, a study was conducted in November 2023 in Siak Kecil District. The research focused on local fishermen using traditional fishing methods such as cast nets, lukah (traps), and hambat (scoops). Data analysis revealed that despite the environmental challenges faced by GSKBB, fishing remains a significant source of income for many local communities. The average investment made by fishermen was IDR 34,667,375, while annual revenue reached IDR 76,052,500. After accounting for costs such as fuel, equipment maintenance, and bait, fishermen realized an average profit of IDR 52,989,502 per year. The calculated revenue cost ratio (RCR) of 3.29, greater than 1, indicates a favorable financial performance for the fishing businesses in GSKBB. This suggests that the region's natural resources can sustainably provide a viable livelihood for local communities. However, it is essential to monitor the long-term sustainability of fishing practices to ensure the preservation of GSKBB's ecosystems and the continued economic well-being of its inhabitants

Abstract

Tanah Merah Village is one of the Fourfinger threadfin fish-producing areas. Most of the population works as fishermen as the basis of their economic income. Fourfinger threadfin fish is the main fishery commodity and has high economic value, thus encouraging the sustainable use of Fourfinger threadfin resources. This research aims to analyze the product flow, information, and finance mechanism in the supply chain of fourfinger threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) from Tanah Merah Village, Tanah Merah District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The method used was in-depth interviews with a qualitative approach. The research results show that the flow of fourfinger threadfin fish products is spread across four provinces on the island of Sumatra. The payment systems used are cash, bank transfers, and loans. The selling price of delighted fish at the fisherman level is IDR 45.000/kg, and at the end consumer IDR 55.000-70.000/kg. Five Senangin fish supply chain entities, namely fishermen, fishermen, collectors, retailers, and final consumers form 3 chain patterns. The longest chain involves five entities and the shortest three entities. The farmer's share value for fishermen is relatively high at over 60%, with the highest value in chain three at 81.8%, indicating the most efficient chain. The product, financial, and information flow mechanisms have been running well. However, coordination and information integration still need to be improved to optimize the supply chain for fourfinger threadfin fish Tanah Merah Village

Abstract

Funding for fishermen's enterprises refers to the costs fishermen require to procure investment goods and operational costs for fishing activities. Funding for fishermen's enterprises is sourced from various channels. This research was conducted in May 2024 in Kuala Indragiri District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province. The research has two objectives: first, to describe the procedures for funding fishermen's enterprises. The second objective is to determine the influence of funding procedures and the socio-economic conditions of fishermen on the decision to borrow from non-formal sources. The sample consisted of 79 fishermen from 3 villages selected using the purposive sampling. Data collection was done through interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using Descriptive Analysis and Multiple Linear Regression. The results of the descriptive analysis show that the procedures for funding fishermen's enterprises can be sourced from self-funding, family, and non-formal sources referred to as "container", with a value of 3.94 categorized as easy. The multiple linear regression analysis results yielded the equation Ŷ = 17.465 + 0.477X1 - 0.306X2. The research results indicate that funding procedures positively and significantly impact the decision to borrow from non-formal sources. Meanwhile, socio-economic conditions negatively and significantly affect the decision to borrow from non-formal sources. There is a positive and significant simultaneous influence between funding procedures and socio-economic conditions on borrowing from non-formal sources. The variable model can predict borrowing decisions from non-formal sources by 52.2%, with 47.8% influenced by other variables

Abstract

The fisheries potential in Tanjung Medang Village is highly promising for development due to its predominantly coastal location. This research aims to identify the mackerel supply chain pattern in Tanjung Medang Village using the Food Supply Chain Network (FSCN) approach. The method used is a survey method. Data analysis uses supply chain pattern analysis with the FSCN approach. The research results show that the mackerel supply chain pattern in Tanjung Medang Village has a supply chain structure consisting of primary and secondary members. Supply chain targets include the export market (Malaysia) and the local market (Tanjung Medang). The application of supply chain management includes bound and unbound partner relationships between supply chain actors, contractual agreements that occur informally, and transactions between supply chain actors using credit and prepayment systems. Supply chain business processes include collaborative planning that appears in each supply chain actor; the risks faced by each supply chain actor are different. The resources owned by the supply chain are by needs (physical resources, capital, technology, and human resources).
