Abstract

The implementation of the Informatics curriculum at the junior high school level faces significant challenges in integrating technology with effective learning models. The gap between the demands of digital competency and relevant learning practices warrants a comprehensive evaluation. This study aims to conduct a systematic evaluation of the implementation of the Informatics curriculum, analyze the effectiveness of the applied learning model, and assess the use of technological media in the learning process in junior high schools. This study employed a qualitative case study approach at SMP Labschool UPI. Data were collected through structured classroom observations, in-depth interviews with two Informatics teachers, and a comprehensive analysis of learning documents, including lesson plans and teaching modules. Data analysis was conducted through systematic reduction, thematic categorization, and reflective interpretation to identify implementation patterns. The findings indicate that the curriculum is implemented in line with the national framework, with contextual variations in learning models tailored to student characteristics and resource availability. Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and collaborative learning are the most dominant pedagogical strategies. The use of technological media demonstrates adequate integration of hardware and software, despite limitations in access and technical skills. This study highlights the importance of developing more contextual learning strategies and enhancing educator capacity through ongoing professional development programs. Abstract

Rapid technological developments have changed the way humans behave and interact, enabling them to adapt to various digitalized sectors of life. If humans fail to adapt to these developments, they will be left behind and uncompetitive due to the various challenges of this era. To survive the digital era, Computational Thinking (CT) and Logical Thinking (LT) are essential skills. These skills can be acquired through the educational process in schools, but schools in Indonesia face infrastructure constraints. Therefore, the Computer Science Unplugged (CSU) model can be an alternative to hone these two skills. This study aims to analyze and compare the results of previous studies regarding the effect of Computer Science Unplugged on Computational Thinking and Logical Thinking skills. The research method used in this study is a Systematic Literature Review with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) method. The results of this study prove that CSU has a positive impact on computational thinking skills and logical thinking skills. Research on the effect of CSU on CT tends to be more numerous than the effect of CSU on LT. CSU research on CT has involved various levels of education, but research on the influence of CSU on LT is still limited to early childhood students. Therefore, there is still room for research on the influence of CSU on LT to obtain more comprehensive results.

Abstract

This study explores integrating Computer Science Unplugged and Discovery Learning to improve the logical thinking skills of vocational high school students in firewall learning. Logical thinking is an essential competency in vocational education, particularly in cybersecurity, where students must analyze system logic focusing on Firewall Filter Rules. However, firewall learning is often difficult because the concepts are abstract and commonly taught using teacher-centered procedural approaches. To address this issue, this study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) combined with a scoping review approach to evaluate and synthesize previous studies related to Computer Science Unplugged, Discovery Learning, logical thinking, and firewall learning. The review process rigorously followed the PRISMA-ScR framework using the ScienceDirect database and supporting references. The findings indicate that integrating both pedagogical approaches has significant potential to create an interactive, student-centered learning environment. Specifically, this integration effectively sharpens students' sequential reasoning, argumentation skills, and their ability to draw comprehensive conclusions regarding rule hierarchy and network security functions. The implications highlight the urgent need for vocational education to shift towards discovery-based learning, empowering students to develop a conceptual understanding rather than merely memorizing procedural configurations.
