Abstract

This writing originates from the author's concerns or the reality of the laity's unawareness of their identity or existence as members of the Church. The author sees a lack of involvement of the laity both within the Church and outside the Church. The main issues raised by the author are who lay people are and how a lay believer finds his or her identity as a true Catholic both within the Church and outside the Church. The purpose of this writing is to deepen the understanding of lay people finding their identity as well as their duties and involvement. Meanwhile, the method used in this thesis is literature review, namely studying the theme of this thesis by utilizing ideas and discussions from books, journals, encyclopedias, Church documents, the internet and other literature. The results of the discussion obtained are that lay people are all Christian believers except those classified as priests or religious recognized by the Church. So, Christian believers who, thanks to baptism, have become God's people in their own way share in carrying out the priestly, prophetic and royal duties of Christ. The characteristic of the laity is their worldly nature. Lay people are invited to be more active and committed in carrying out their vocation, both in the internal life of the Church and the world, bringing a positive impact and Christian values in all aspects of life.

Abstract

This article aims to provide an in-depth review of the implementation of the inquiry method in Catholic Religious Education. The study applies a systematic literature review approach by analyzing various relevant sources, including books, indexed journal articles, and official documents of the Catholic Church published within the last five years. The inquiry method is considered an effective approach to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and active participation of learners in understanding the values of the Catholic faith. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, classification, and synthesis to explore the relevance of inquiry implementation in the context of religious education. The findings indicate that the inquiry method encourages students not only to receive the faith teachings passively but also to reflect on their life experiences in the light of the Gospel. This strategy strengthens faith identity, builds reflective thinking skills, and promotes a dialogical attitude in facing contemporary challenges. The article concludes that the inquiry method can serve as an effective pedagogical alternative in Catholic Religious Education, although its application requires adaptation to theological contexts, spirituality, and Catholic school curricula. Thus, this review is expected to contribute to both theoretical development and practical innovation in the teaching of religion in contemporary contexts.

Abstract

In general, the Catholic Church is based on two spiritual activities, namely the official liturgy and devotions. The difference between the two is more about legality and the place where the activity is carried out in a place that has been officially and sacredly determined, namely the church. Whereas devotion is more flexible and can be carried out anywhere, such as; shrines, churches, or in homes. Devotion is very close to the expression of love for God’s love and including his Son Jesus Christ, the world’s savior who atones for human sins. In imitating the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, there are various opportunities that the Church has provided, so that people can live and reflect and ask themselves, why do we have to be devoted? How to obtain the fruits of devotion? People can learn devotion from the life of a Only Begotten Son of God, who was willing to suffer and be crucified. One of them is Jesus Christ who has a Most Sacred Heart. The church is aware of the importance of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, although many believers still do not understand the value of this devotion, so that from this understanding and motivations emerge in understanding devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, such as devotional practices centered on objects of statues. The people themselves still do not fully understand the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. So form here the author finds the most basic things that can help people in increasing their piety to Jesus Christ in understanding the teachings of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus according to Pope Pius XII. So by understanding the teachings of Pope Pius XII about devotion. People can implement and understand more about devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is not a burden but a godliness of life and can know His heart which is full of mercy.
