Abstract

The threat of social engineering attacks is highly evident in Indonesia. This is reflected in the IDADX report, which shows a significant increase in phishing attack complaints in Indonesia during the first quarter of 2023, with 26,675 reports, up from 6,106 reports in the fourth quarter of 2022. The highest number of attacks occurred in February with 15,050 cases. This also resulted in Indonesia being the 8th country with the highest number of data breach cases globally, with 820,000 cases in the second quarter of 2022, according to Surfshark. The purpose of this research is to analyze the utilization of digital forensic technology in collecting digital evidence to reveal the identities of social engineering crime perpetrators. The writing of this article uses a qualitative analysis method supported by digital forensic theory. The results of the discussion indicate that forensics focuses on the identification, collection, analysis, and preservation of digital evidence that can be used in legal proceedings. Digital forensics leverages computer technology and digital devices to uncover and secure information relevant to a crime. In social engineering crimes, which involve psychological manipulation to obtain information or certain access from victims, digital forensics plays a crucial role in identifying, collecting, analyzing, and preserving digital evidence that can reveal the identities of the perpetrators and their methods. Digital forensic technology is used to analyze emails, text messages, activity logs, and other digital traces left by the perpetrators.

Abstract

Electronic transactions offer various conveniences and benefits while also giving rise to legal problems, one of which is the crime of fraud. To minimize the occurrence of this, a more in-depth study is needed regarding legal regulations, forms and modes, as well as efforts to prevent and overcome them. The existence of the Covid-19 virus has had a negative impact on the reduction of workers in Indonesia and the rise of online fraud, especially using more and more electronic media. This was also influenced by the economic situation of Indonesian society when Covid-19 was on the rise. Cybercrime is a form of crime that arises from the use of internet technology. The rapid development in the use of internet services invites crime. With the increasing number of requests for internet access, crimes against the use of information technology are increasing along with the development of the technology itself. More and more parties will be harmed by the actions of cybercriminals if there is no law that regulates it.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the SIGNAL (Samsat Digital Nasional) application in reducing queues and increasing compliance among motor vehicle taxpayers in Tanjungpinang. The background of the research is rooted in persistent low tax compliance and administrative inefficiencies, particularly long queues at the Samsat office. The study aims to evaluate whether the SIGNAL application enhances the efficiency of public services and improves taxpayer behavior. Using a quantitative research method with a survey approach and random sampling, the research collects and analyzes data statistically to identify the relationship between digital tax services and taxpayer compliance. The findings suggest that the SIGNAL application contributes positively by streamlining tax payment procedures, minimizing in-person interactions, and offering timely access to tax information, which collectively foster better compliance. However, challenges remain, including limited infrastructure and digital literacy among segments of the population. The study concludes that while SIGNAL improves service delivery and compliance, its full potential can only be realized with enhanced public outreach and inter-agency collaboration. These results have implications for digital governance and suggest that integrating technology into public administration can effectively support tax compliance and reduce service bottlenecks.

Abstract

Public security and order (kamtibmas) are fundamental for social stability and sustainable development, yet traditional policing alone is often insufficient to address complex social dynamics. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of capacity building and strategic partnerships between the Kudus Police Community Development Unit (Satuan Pembinaan Masyarakat/Satbinmas) and the Lindu Aji Community Organization in enhancing community-based security. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, focusing on the interaction patterns, trust, social networks, and normative values within the CSO-police partnership. The findings indicate that while the coaching and partnership initiatives have contributed to building social capital, including trust, networks, and norms, the approach remains largely administrative and reactive, limiting the proactive engagement of CSOs in early detection and conflict prevention. Intensive communication and operational synergy between Satbinmas and Lindu Aji demonstrate potential for collaborative security governance, yet the absence of structured operational frameworks, standard operating procedures, and role clarity restricts the effectiveness of these partnerships. The study concludes that transforming CSOs into active, adaptive agents requires participatory, structured coaching and institutionalized strategic partnerships, enabling sustainable kamtibmas. The results provide both theoretical insights on social capital-driven policing and practical guidance for optimizing community-police collaboration to strengthen public safety.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the extent of the role of education in deciding the regeneration of KKB criminal groups. The collaboration between the Puncak Regency Police and the Ilaga Regency Government in the implementation of education programs as an effort to prevent the regeneration of Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) shows positive potential in shaping the character and social awareness of the younger generation. This program that integrates the values of nationalism and ethics indirectly reduces the interest in recruitment by the KKB. This study uses a qualitative method with interview data collection techniques, observation and documentation. The results show that cross-sector synergy increases the effectiveness of planning, coordination, and implementation of educational programs, although it still faces challenges such as limited resources, infrastructure, and organizational cultural differences. Therefore, increasing human resource capacity, improving infrastructure, and making more adaptive policy adjustments are needed to optimize community support and program effectiveness. The findings of this study make an important contribution to the development of strategies to prevent KKB regeneration through continuous education.

Abstract

The swift digitalization of policing in Zimbabwe has altered law enforcement operations in the post-pandemic context; however, the impact on public trust is still unclear. This study examines the impact of digital policing initiatives by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on public perceptions of legitimacy and accountability, addressing an existing research gap. The main aim is to analyze significant digital policing practices adopted in Harare Metropolitan Province since the onset of COVID-19, evaluate their effects on public trust, and suggest policy strategies for an inclusive and ethical digital transformation. The study employs a qualitative case study design utilizing secondary data to apply the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Social Capital Theory (SCT) in analyzing findings derived from government reports, academic literature, and media sources. The findings indicate that digital systems, including the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), CCTV surveillance, and online reporting forums, have improved efficiency and communication; however, they have not significantly restored trust. Citizens perceive digital policing primarily as a mechanism of citizen control rather than empowerment, attributed to insufficient data governance, inadequate responsiveness, and lack of accountability mechanisms. The research indicates that technological modernization should be synchronized with transparency, ethical standards, and citizen engagement to enhance police legitimacy and public trust. The development of robust data protection policies, enhancement of ICT capacity, and promotion of participatory digital governance are recommended to ensure that innovation fosters public trust and democratic policing.
