Abstract

Status epilepticus is an emergency condition in the field of neurology are often undiagnosed and are associated with high mortality and long-term disability. One type of status epilepticus is nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) in which the diagnosis of NCSE is very difficult because the clinical manifestations appear is agitation or confusion, nystagmus or bizarre behavior such as lip smacking or take goods in the air.The diagnosis was based on clinical features, especially the mental status or the disrupted of consciousness and the changes in the EEG. Diagnosis of NCSE is an important first step, which can avoid the delay in therapy in order to prevent irreversible brain damage. Treatment is by administering benzodiazepines and antiepileptic drugs, while the prognosis is determined by the etiology and associated with brain damage there.

Abstract

Cedera otak merupakan penyebab utama morbiditas dan mortalitas pada semua kelompok umur. Selama cedera kepala terjadi reaksi kaskade inflamasi yang nantinya akan menyebabkan apoptosis dan nekrosis. Propolis memiliki aktivitas antiinflamasi yang kuat melalui peningkatan ekspresi Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) yang akan berikatan dengan tyrosine kinase-B (trkB) yang akan menghambat apoptosis, sehingga propolis memiliki potensi sebagai alternatif terapi dalam menurunkan apoptosis melalui peningkatan ekspresi BDNF pada cedera otak traumatik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh pemberian propolis dalam berbagai dosis pada ekspresi BDNF dan apoptosis di sel otak tikus Rattus norvegicus model traumatik. Sampel dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok, yaitu: kelompok model trauma dan diberi perlakuan propolis masing-masing dosis 50mg, 100mg, dan 200mg, kontrol positif dan kontrol negatif. Pada akhir penelitian, tikus dikorbankan dan dibuat preparat otak untuk menilai ekspresi BDNF dan apoptosis. Berdasarkan hasil analisa statistik, didapatkan hubungan yang signifikan antara ekspresi BDNF dan apoptosis sel otak tikus model traumatik dengan berbagai dosis propolis (p=0,001, r=0,955; p=0,000, r=0,904, korelasi Pearson). Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa propolis berpengaruh dalam peningkatan ekspresi BDNF dan penurunan apoptosis di sel otak tikus model traumatik.Kata Kunci: Apoptosis, BDNF, cedera otak traumatik, propolis

Abstract

Introduction: Farmers are a group of workers that uses pesticide evenly. The exposure of pesticide that contains cadmium (Cd) inside it in a long period of time will affect cognitive function. This research is aimed for knowing the effect of cadmium exposure on pesticide for cognitive function to the farmers at Cangar Village, Bulukerto, Bumiaji, Batu City.Method: This research uses observational analytical descriptive method with cross sectional design. it uses 47 human respondents with purposive sampling technique for sample choosing. The respondent is a male farmer that actively uses pesticide for spraying the plant. The data collection uses The Prospective Investigation of Pesticide Applicator’ Healt (PIPAH), Minimental State Examination (MMSE), and Montreal Cognitive Assessment Indonesian Version (MoCa INA) questionnaire.Result : The exposure variable gives negative effect and significant for MMSE variable with liniar regressive test significance is less than α (0.000<0.050). The determinant coefisien number is 0.0551 which shows that the exposure variable gives the negative effect and significant for MoCa-Ina variable with liniar regressive test significance is α (0.001<0.050). The determinant coefisien number is 0.212 which shows that the exposure variable gives effect for 21.2 % to MoCa-Ina variable Conclusion: The cadmium exposure in pesticide gives impact for kognitive function.Keywords: Cadmium, Pesticides, Cognitive fungtion, MMSE, MoCa-Ina, Farmers
