Abstract

Waste management in Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ulu is still facing problems. The size of the waste pile is not commensurate with the waste handling capacity. Plastic waste is a source of problems in landfills because it is quite large and difficult to decompose. Through research and innovation in waste management, we hope to create solutions that not only minimize negative impacts on the environment, but also create new opportunities for a sustainable economy. This research will be carried out at the Darul Khuldi Islamic Boarding School Foundation in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. This research was conducted to process waste at the Darul Khuldi Islamic Boarding School Foundation, namely domestic waste in the form of plastic waste and organic waste. Plastic waste produced during activities carried out at the Islamic Boarding School is processed into pelleting plastic pellets and making ecoenzymes to manage organic waste. The results obtained are expected to increase the independence of the Darul Khuldi Islamic Boarding School Foundation and reduce the impact of pollution on the surrounding environment

Abstract

Kelapa sawit adalah salah satu komoditas andalan bagi Kabupaten Siak. Desa yang dibentuk berdasarkan sistem Perkebunan Inti Rakyat (PIR) PT. Perkebunan Nusantara V Sei Buatan yang bergerak di bidang industry kelapa sawit di Kabupaten Siak adalah Desa Teluk Merbau. Saat ini perkebunan kelapa sawit di Desa Teluk Merbau sedang melaksanakan proses replanting atau peremajaan, yang pada prosesnya akan menghasilkan limbah. Hingga saat ini tidak semua limbah hasil proses peremajaan telah mengalami pengolahan. Diantara limbah yang dihasilkan dan memiliki potensi untuk diolah adalah nira kelapa sawit. Dengan tahapan proses yang sederhana diharapkan nira kelapa sawit dapat menjadi alternatif bahan baku pembuatan gula merah selain kelapa atau aren. Hal ini akan sangat bermanfaat untuk daerah – daerah yang berada di sekitar perkebunan kelapa sawit dan jauh dari akses transportasi. Diharapkan juga setelah kegiatan pengabdian ini, masyarakat dapat menerapkan pengetahuan dan menambah pendapatan keluarga dengan usaha gula merah berbahan dasar nira kelapa sawit.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of adding resiprene and stearic acid on the mechanical properties and surface morphology of polyolefin blends, specifically polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS). Resiprene was incorporated as an additive to enhance flexibility, while stearic acid was introduced to improve polymer compatibility and blend dispersion. The test results showed that the addition of 20 phr resiprene to polypropylene yielded the highest tensile strength of 9.63 MPa and an elongation of 5.85%, indicating high flexibility and compatibility of the blend. In contrast, the tensile strength of the PS-based blends was generally lower than that of the PP-based counterparts. The addition of 1 phr stearic acid proved effective in reducing the number of pores on the surface of both PP and PS blends. Interestingly, the PS–resiprene–stearic acid blend exhibited a more refined surface morphology compared to the PP–resiprene–stearic acid blend, suggesting higher compatibility of PS within the composite system.
