Abstract

This study aims to investigate the way in which Google Translate is used in practice by university students in the Information and Technology (IT) context. The research method used in this study is a descriptive design with a qualitative approach. 24 first-year students of non-English department taking English for IT Professional class are involved in this study. The tools used in this study were questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that students found Google Translate useful to support their academic studies, especially in doing writing assignments. However, they always needed to refine the grammar and logical structure of the translation. They sometimes also encounter difficulties in translating technical terms of the IT context. Google Translate has several roles in supporting students' writing skills with several positive and negative effects that affect their writing activities. In conclusion, the findings suggest that students use the technology of Google Translate in strategic ways to enhance their abilities in the English language.

Abstract

This study explores EFL learners’ perceptions of two widely used digital language learning platforms: Duolingo and BBC Learning English. Drawing on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the research investigates how learners evaluate the platforms in terms of effectiveness, engagement, and usability, as well as their perceived strengths and limitations in developing specific English language skills. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with ten EFL learners who had experience using both platforms. Thematic analysis revealed that Duolingo was favored for vocabulary and grammar practice due to its gamified and user-friendly design, while BBC Learning English was perceived as more effective for listening comprehension and exposure to authentic language. Learners reported using both platforms strategically, depending on their individual learning goals. The findings highlight the complementary nature of these tools and the importance of aligning digital resources with learners’ preferences and skill development needs. This study contributes to the growing body of research on educational technology in language learning and offers practical implications for educators and developers.

Abstract

Masjid Jami Daarul Khoir yang berlokasi di Kelurahan Ciracas, Jakarta Timur, berperan sebagai pusat kegiatan keagamaan dan pembinaan umat bagi masyarakat sekitar. Seiring meningkatnya aktivitas jamaah dan program keagamaan, kebutuhan akan sistem keamanan yang memadai menjadi semakin penting. Minimnya sistem pengawasan menyebabkan terjadinya insiden kehilangan kotak amal masjid yang menimbulkan kerugian material serta menurunkan rasa aman jamaah. Kondisi tersebut menunjukkan perlunya penerapan sistem keamanan berbasis teknologi yang andal dan berkelanjutan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keamanan lingkungan Masjid Jami Daarul Khoir melalui implementasi sistem Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) yang terintegrasi dengan Network Video Recorder (NVR) dan Network Attached Storage (NAS). Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif dengan melibatkan pengurus masjid dan masyarakat sekitar. Tahapan kegiatan meliputi identifikasi kebutuhan keamanan, perancangan sistem, instalasi perangkat, serta pelatihan pengoperasian dan pemeliharaan sistem. Data kegiatan diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa sistem CCTV terintegrasi berhasil dipasang dan berfungsi dengan baik di area strategis masjid. Selama proses implementasi, beberapa kendala teknis ditemui, seperti proses instalasi perangkat yang memerlukan akses ke area plafon serta kebutuhan peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat dalam merespons gangguan teknis pada perangkat CCTV. Kendala tersebut diatasi melalui penyesuaian teknis saat instalasi serta pemberian edukasi kepada pengurus dan warga mengenai pengoperasian serta pemeliharaan sistem. Pengurus masjid mampu mengoperasikan sistem pemantauan dan penyimpanan rekaman secara mandiri setelah mengikuti pelatihan. Penerapan sistem ini meningkatkan pengawasan lingkungan masjid secara real-time dan memberikan efek preventif terhadap potensi tindak kejahatan. Selain itu, rasa aman dan kepercayaan jamaah terhadap pengelolaan masjid mengalami peningkatan. Sistem penyimpanan berbasis NAS juga memungkinkan pengelolaan data rekaman yang lebih aman dan terstruktur. Implementasi sistem CCTV terintegrasi NVR dan NAS terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan keamanan lingkungan Masjid Jami Daarul Khoir serta mendukung pengelolaan masjid yang lebih aman dan modern.
