Abstract

Social deixis usually can be found in series. So that, this study purposed to describe the kinds of social deixis and aims of social deixis in the series entitled Upin-Ipin Series. The writers analyzed this study by using theory of Stephen C. Levinson. In analyzing the data of this study, the writers used qualitative method. The findings of the analysis revealed that there were 34 utterances that containing social deixis found in the series Upin-Ipin Series. The writers found 68 styles of social deixis in the series Upin-Ipin Series, 28 styles of social deixis were categorized as kinds of social deixis and 28 styles of social deixis were categorized as the aims of social deixis. The writers found two kinds of social deixis, they were; 12 styles of social deixis in relational social deixis and 16 styles of social deixis in absolute social deixis. Besides the writers found, three aims of social deixis, they were; 10 styles of social deixis have categorized as to express politeness and respect, 9 styles of social deixis had categorized as to express intimacy, and 9 styles of social deixis had categorized as to identify authority. Abstract

In speaking activities, speakers not only communicate messages, but also develop social relationships with other speakers (speech companions). Based on Hymes' theory, this study focuses on the function of context in conversational discourse between close characters in the Harry Potter: The prisoners of Azkaban. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of context in conversational discourse between characters, as well as to analyses conversations between close characters based on hymes theory; from these conversations, it can be seen that paralinguistic elements are very helpful for understanding each other's illocutionary. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method with a content analysis approach, the research method is qualitative. Keyword: Follow Conversation, Abstract Context, Harry Potter

Abstract

Although famous as a favorite junior high school, English is st ill a scourge for most students of universities. As a result, students' English learning achievement does not meet the KKM. The group investigation learning model is one alternative to improve student learning achievement. Classroom action research the stages of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting on each cycle is used to improve this situation. Planning is carried out according to the results of the identification and reflection of the previous cycle. Implementation according to plan. Observations are emphasized on the implementation of learning, increasing learning achievement, and student responses. Reflections are made to make the necessary improvements so that learning objectives are achieved. The results showed that students have positive attitudes and responses to English learning with the group investigation model on the subject of English. English learning achievement of university students in 2019/2020 in the subject of English by using a group investigation model increased with an average value of 81.5 so that it was categorized quite well. Teachers can use the group investigation model as an alternative to improving students' English learning achievement. Keyword: Learning achievement, Learning model, Group investigation

Abstract

Deixis is an important component of the study of pragmatics and one of its types is person deixis which plays an important role in people's communication. Person deixis is a reference from someone. The use of flexible person deixis can facilitate interpersonal relationships so as to achieve communication goals. The objectives of this study are to identify the types of person deixis that are used in the script Movie Script 365 days, to find out the dominant types of person deixis that are used in the script Movie Script of in 365 days. This research belongs to qualitative research. The researcher uses observation method, while the data collection techniques is listening the song, reading and analyzing the script Movie Script in 365 days. The result of this research show that all types of person deixis are used in the script Movie Script of in 365 days. Person deixis almost occurs in every line of 365 days Movie Script. There are data of person deixis consisting of first-, second-, and third person deixis. Most of personal deixis in 365 days Movie Script refer to the speaker itself which are encoded by first singular person deixis like I and My. While for first plural person deixis which are We mostly refer to the speaker. Keyword: Person Deixis, Movie Script, 365 days

Abstract

Abstract The aims of the study is to analyze Non-Vocal Backchannels of the Indonesian Presidential Candidates on The Second Debate 2019. This research has two objectives: first, to identify Non-Vocal Backchannels that used by The Presidential Candidates on the second debate. Second, to analyze the function of Backchannels used by the presidential candidates on the second debate. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. It is concerned with the description of the data in the form of conversation from the presidential candidates’ debate based on Yule's theories of Backchannels and function of backchannels. Based on the obtained result, it can be concluded thatthe most dominant of non-vocal backchannels of the presidential candidates on the second debate is Eye Gaze and The most frequently performed function is Continuer and Acknowledgement.
