Abstract

This research is motivated by the emergence of radical organizations that exploit religion and frequently target university students, especially those in public universities. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of Islamic religious education courses at public universities in countering the tide of religious radicalism. This research employs the library research method to collect data and information relevant to the topic or research problem through an in-depth literature review. The results of this study indicate that empowerment in the context of Islamic religious education involves the development of learning materials, teaching models, and the enhancement of lecturer professionalism. Islamic religious education materials need to be composed from various perspectives or schools of thought to enhance students' understanding and tolerance of differences. Developing teaching models that instill anti-radicalism values such as tolerance, democracy, gentleness, and taawun (cooperation) is essential for fostering an inclusive attitude among students. The professionalism of Islamic religious education lecturers who have a moderate understanding is key in this empowerment process, enabling them to function as role models and mentors in instilling peaceful and inclusive Islamic values. Thus, Islamic religious education can become an effective tool in empowering students to recognize and reject radical ideologies and promote a moderate attitude in their religious practices.

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has brought great changes in the world of education, including in the Islamic boarding school environment which has been relying on classical learning methods based on the yellow book. The gap in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) has caused pesantren to face challenges in preparing students to be able to compete in the digital era. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) approach is a solution that can be applied to improve the quality of learning in Islamic boarding schools without eliminating traditional values. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach at the Tri Bhakti Attaqwa Rama Puja Raman North Islamic Boarding School, East Lampung to explore the application of STEAM in the classical system. Data collection techniques were carried out through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies, which were then analyzed by thematic analysis methods. The results show that the integration of STEAM in Islamic boarding school learning can improve 21st century skills, including critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. However, there are challenges in its implementation, such as the limitations of digital infrastructure, low technological literacy among students and teaching staff, and the need for special training for teachers in implementing STEAM. Therefore, an adaptation strategy is needed that maintains classical methods but still accommodates the use of technology in learning. This study provides recommendations for Islamic boarding schools to develop learning models that are more innovative and adaptive to the times

Abstract

Indonesia is known as a diverse nation with a wealth of cultures, ethnicities, religions, and languages. This cultural plurality is both a strength and a challenge in realizing education that is fair and inclusive, especially for minority groups. This article examines the relationship between cultural plurality and minority education from a multicultural perspective, highlighting how the national education system addresses the complexities of such diversity. The research method uses a literature study with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques involve reading and drawing conclusions from various literature sources, including books or relevant articles. Data analysis techniques include inventorying, categorizing, and analyzing research data. The study results indicate that education in Indonesia still faces challenges in terms of equal access, cultural representation, and multicultural teacher competencies. Therefore, a humanistic educational approach that is culturally just and sensitive to local values is needed so that plurality becomes an integrative strength, rather than a source of exclusion.
