<![CDATA[ABSTRAK: Menulis teks deskripsi melibatkan kecerdasan emosional dalam menuangkan ide dan menggambarkan objek. Kecerdasan emosional juga dibutuhkan sebagai daya dorong dalam diri seorang siswa untuk melibatkan emosinya dalam berekspresi. Namun saat ini banyak siswa yang tidak dapat menulis teks deskripsi dengan baik. Maka dari itu penulis ingin mengetahui pengaruh kecerdasan emosional terhadap kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: 1) kecerdasan emosional siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kuningan tahun ajaran 2020/2021, 2) kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kuningan tahun ajaran 2020/2021, dan 3) Pegaruh kecerdasan emosional terhadap kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kuningan tahun ajaran 2020/2021. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif yang bersifat survei melalui studi korelasional. Penulis mengambil populasi kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kuningan tahun ajaran 2020/2021 dengan jumlah 360 siswa. Sampel dalam penelitian ini mengambil 10% dari jumlah populasi yaitu sebanyak 36 siswa. Dalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan teknik pemerolehan data sebagai berikut: 1) teknik nontes, yaitu menggunakan angket dengan skala likert, 2) teknik tes, yaitu tes mengarang. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh dari pengolahan data bahwa kecerdasan emosional siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kuningan tahun ajaran 2020/2021 sebesar 77% yang termasuk dalam kategori baik. Kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kuningan tahun ajaran 2020/2021 memperoleh rata-rata sebesar 82,64 yang termasuk dalam kategori baik. Pengaruh kecerdasan emosional terhadap kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kuningan tahun ajaran 2020/2021 memperoleh nilai r = 0,36 yang tergolong dalam kategori rendah dengan kontribusi 12,96%. Emotional intelligence is needed as a thrust in a student to involue his or her expresed emotions. But at this moment, there are many student who are not capable of writing descriptive text very well. Therefore, the writer wants to know the influence of emotional intelligence towards the capability of writing descriptive. This research aims to know: 1) The emotional intelligence of seventh grade students in JHS 2 Kuningan academic year 2020/2021, 2) The capality of writing descriptive text of seventh grade students in JHS 2 Kuningan academic year 2020/2021, 3) The influence of emotional intelligence towards the capability of writing descriptive text of seventh grade students in JHS 2 Kuningan academic year 2020/2021. The research method that use is quantitative survey though correlational studies. The writer takes the population of seventh grade students in JHS 2 Kuningan academic year 2020/2021 with 360 students. The research sample is 10% of the population and it is 36 students. In this research, the writer used dara acquisition technique as follows: 1) non-tes technique, is using a quetionnaire with a likert scale, 2) test technique, is a composing text. The results obtained from the data processing are the emotional intelligence of seventh grade students in JHS 2 Kuningan academic year 2020/2021 is 77% in a good category. The capability of writing descriptive text of seventh grade students in JHS 2 Kuningan academic year 2020/2021 obtains the average og 82,64 in a good category. The influence of emotional intelligence towards the capability of writing descriptive text of seventh grade students in JHS 2 Kuningan academic year 2020/2021 achieves r = 0,36 with a low category and the contribution is 12,19%.
