Abstract

Family encouragement and custom often force someone to get married even though the person is not fully ready, often creating conflict within the family. This research reveals that the Sasak traditional marriage system on Lombok Island legalizes kidnapping marriages so that the potential for conflict is increasingly wide open. This study aims to examine and analyze the role of the Sasak marriage customary system in an effort to reduce the potential for conflict due to merarik kodek which can result in disharmony between the couple's families. This research uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach carried out through observation and in-depth interviews conducted with 19 informants. The results show that conflicts that can occur due to child marriage can be mitigated by the merarik customary system, even though the custom itself triggers potential conflicts that can result in disharmony between the couple's families. The first three processes of merarik, namely maling, besejati and selabar, will create the potential for conflict, and the next three processes, ngawinan, nyongkolan and bales lampak nae, will reduce the potential for conflict. So, it is concluded that the Sasak marriage system can reduce conflict due to the tradition of merarik kodek.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to measure and analyze intercultural dimensions in the context of creating effective relationships among religious communities and to formulate effective strategies and approaches to mitigate potential conflicts and create harmonious relationships amidst a society with diverse cultures and religions. This research was conducted in the city of Mataram. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to collect data from various religious and cultural groups in different areas of Mataram. The research instruments include in-depth interviews and non-participatory observations; this step was chosen because issues of ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group relations (SARA) are sensitive topics to discuss. The data collected was then analyzed using a qualitative approach such as content analysis to identify patterns of relationships between religious and cultural groups. The research results show several factors influencing interactions between religious communities, namely the level of education, knowledge about the cultures and religions of each group, and intensive communication. Additionally, it was found that an effective form of interaction is one filled with open dialogue between groups and individual openness to differences in each intercultural interaction session. The findings of this research can serve as a basis for developing policies that support cultural and religious diversity in society and promote understanding and cooperation among religious groups to achieve more harmonious relationships.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social and cultural values embedded in the menyilaq tradition in Jerowaru Village, East Lombok Regency. The menyilaq tradition is a practice of direct invitation that is still preserved as part of local wisdom and serves as a social system that strengthens community bonds. This study employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods. Data collection was conducted through non-participant observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and documentation, involving subjects from the ranks of pemesilaq, epen gawe, and the community being invited, as well as informants comprising traditional leaders and Sasak cultural figures. The research findings indicate that the menyilaq tradition embodies social and cultural values such as responsibility, sukerede, sangkep, tate krame, serembat angen, besiru, and beriuk. This tradition also serves as an effective medium for interaction and socialization in maintaining community harmony and solidarity. Amidst the tide of modernization, the community of Jerowaru Village continues to uphold the tradition of menyilaq as a form of cultural resistance and an effort to preserve noble values. Thus, the tradition of menyilaq not only serves as a social ritual but also as a foundation for building a harmonious and sustainable social structure amidst the disruption of values caused by modernity. Kata Kunci: Menyilaq, Nilai Sosial, Nilai Budaya, Desa Jerowaru.
