Abstract

Background: Ovarian cancer is a disease that has a high mortality rate, it has 185 thousand deaths in 2018. In Indonesia, it is estimated that there are 100 cancer patients per 100 thousand people. Ovarian cancer is a malignancy with no specific symptoms, as a result advanced stage is commonly found at diagnosis and there is no effective screening test to date. However, genetic factors have been found to play a role in this disease. Aims: The aim of this study is to find out the characteristics of ovarian cancer patients. Methods: This research uses a review article research design, with a narrative type. Data collection was taken from a collection of journals sourced from Pubmed and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria set by the author and then summarized. Six journals that included the characteristics of  ovarian cancer patients are included in this review article. Results: According to the six journals, the mean age is 54 years old, the most stage found is stage 3, and the most epithelial histopathology found is serous. Conclusion: According to the six journals that were reviewed, the characteristics of ovarian cancer patients based on age, stage, and epithelial histopathology were found to be consistent with the theory that has been established.

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that grows in breast tissue can come from components such as fat tissue, blood vessels. Early detection is one of the breast cancer prevention efforts that can help reduce the incidence of breast cancer. There are three ways to prevent breast cancer including primary prevention, secondary prevention and tertiary prevention. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge regarding breast cancer prevention among students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara for the 2018–2019 academic year. Methods: This study uses a descriptive type of research with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study amounted to 495 students and the sample to be carried out in this study was 83 students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara 2018–2019 who met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis used univariate analysis with frequency distribution table. Results: The level of knowledge of USU Faculty of Medicine 2018–2019 students was 61.5% good, 38.5% sufficient, and there were no students who had a low level of knowledge. Conclusion: Most medical students at the Universitas Sumatera Utara have a good level of knowledge about breast cancer prevention. This indicates a generally adequate awareness, which is essential for early detection and effective prevention efforts.

Abstract

Background: Immune biologic markers that can predict clinical response to anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy are needed to identify and validate tumor immunotherapy studies. High PD-L1 expression is associated with increased clinical response in patients with various types of cancer treated with inhibitors of the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway. Objective: The researcher wanted to see the clinicopathological characteristics of invasive breast carcinoma according to the immunohistochemical expression of PD-L1. Methods: This study is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional, retrospective approach by looking at secondary data from the medical records of the Department of Surgery, Haji Adam Malik Hospital from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2021. Results: Immunohistochemical expression of PD- L1 was positive in 76.6% of invasive breast carcinomas and negative in 23.3% of invasive breast carcinomas. Immunohistochemical expression of PD-L1 was positive in non-specific IBCs that predominated in every molecular subgroup of breast carcinoma. Conclusion: Tumours can show positive or negative PD-L1 expression through several biological processes with different functional significance, namely the genetic mechanism of constitutive or oncogene-induced PD-L1 expression, PD-L1 expression induced in T cells, and absence of PD-L1 expression. Due to the absence of T cells and genetic events that block the expression of PD-L1 despite T cell infiltration.
