Abstract

The spread of HIV/AIDS in Indonesia is very high, which is characterised by a decrease in CD4 count that weakens the immune system. Opportunistic infections that often occur in HIV/AIDS patients are oral candidiasis at 90-95%. This article reports a case of oral candidiasis and identifies the type of candida in HIV/AIDS patients at Prof.Dr.Margono Soekardjo Purwokerto Hospital. A 34-year-old woman complained of white patches throughout her oral cavity, feeling rough, uncomfortable, and painless. The cli-nical picture showed white plaques that could not be scraped off, irregularly shaped on the dorsum of the tongue, buccal and la-bial mucosa, palate, attached maxillary gingiva, and extended to the oropharynx. Complete blood test showed decreased lym-phocyte count, and the patient's anti-HIV test was reactive. The patient was admitted to the internal medicine inpatient ward and received clotrimoxazole and clindamycin therapy. It was concluded that the oral manifestation that is commonly found in AIDS patients is oral candidiasis, the type of candidiasis in this case is chronic hyperplastic candidiasis.
