Abstract

Abstract: This study is inspired by the social norms of pre-Islamic Arab society, which often sparked issues related to gender equality and tolerance. These norms were marked by acts of inhumane violence that stood in stark contrast to the teachings of Islam. Unfortunately, similar problems still exist in modern society. This article aims to examine the extremism found in the inhumane social rules of pre-Islamic Arab society through the lens of Islamic values of moderation and tolerance, while also reflecting on parallels in today’s world. Using a case study approach and a comparative analysis, the research explores the social conditions of pre-Islamic Arab society alongside current social realities. The study uncovers four key findings. First, the oppression of women through practices like slavery and female infanticide represents acts of severe extremism. Second, the culture of constant warfare, fueled by disputes and tribal fanaticism, was a hallmark of the time. Third, the unfair practices surrounding marriage and divorce caused significant harm to women. Finally, the study highlights striking similarities between the pre-Islamic era and contemporary society, where a lack of commitment to the Islamic principles of moderation and tolerance continues to contribute to social challenges. Keywords: Extremism, social rules, pre-Islamic Arabia, moderate value, and tolerance

Abstract

This article reports the results of a study on how to fill the free market program of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Indonesia has significant demographic bonus when compared to other ASEAN countries, so that specifically Indonesia will become an easy target for economic activity (read: free market flow transactions) carried out by all members of ASEAN. Demographic bonus is an opportunity and challenge for the Indonesian people, both for those who live in cities or in the countryside. This condition will be more complicated, if the mapping potential of the population does not become a serious concern for the government and stakeholders so that the people of Indonesia will become the largest consumer for products of ASEAN countries. One of the potential populations of Indonesia is women, because they have specific skills that are able to be directed towards an income. The purpose of this study is to prepare the people of Indonesia who have the skills, especially women in entering the AEC both urban and rural communities. This study uses a qualitative method of observation, interviews and review of documents, such as books, newspapers and others.

Abstract

Aceh has one of the largest forest areas in Sumatra. However, Aceh has lost approximately 117,000 hectares in the last 7 years. Although the Aceh government has addressed forest destruction through programs run by the environment and forestry agencies and regulatory support from Indonesian laws and Qanun, these measures have not been effective. In addressing this issue, Islam has a solution-oriented and relevant approach to tackling forest destruction through the concept of Waqf Forest. This study examined the implementation, positive impacts, and challenges, and will produce recommendations for the development of waqf forests in Aceh province. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method to explore in depth the waqf forest model as a forest reforestation strategy in Aceh. Overall, this study highlights that the waqf forest model represents a promising strategy for addressing deforestation and supporting reforestation efforts in Aceh Province, while also identifying key challenges that hinder its optimal development. Contributing empirical insights into waqf forest implementation in Aceh, an area largely underexplored in prior literature. This research demonstrates that waqf forests hold significant potential as an Islamic philanthropic mechanism for advancing ecological sustainability and long-term forest conservation in the region.
