Abstract

This study aims to investigate the integration of technology in the preparation of prospective teachers for educational management through the curriculum in Ghana. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the study analyzes how technology is embedded in learning and how prospective teachers respond to it in the context of education management. The main focus of this research is on the concept and use of technology in the educational process to enhance the understanding and skills of prospective teachers.  However, the study found that the curriculum policies, structure, and guidelines for pre-service teachers lack a clear vision for effectively integrating technology. Interviews with policymakers indicated their recognition of the importance of technology integration but also revealed the lack of investment hindered its progress. Drawing on the study's findings and existing research, context-specific recommendations are proposed, focusing on promoting innovative technology-based pedagogical models and developing effective leadership. The study involved participants from a teacher preparation program in Ghana, with data collection conducted through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and curriculum document analysis. Data were analyzed using an inductive approach to identify common patterns in technology integration and prospective teachers' responses to it. The results of this study are expected to provide insights into the extent to which technology is integrated in the teacher preparation curriculum in Ghana, as well as its impact on teacher candidates' readiness to manage education. The practical implications of this study can provide recommendations for improving the teacher education curriculum, adapting teaching strategies to technological developments, and increasing the effectiveness of teacher preparation in the digital era. The findings can provide valuable guidance for policy makers, educational institutions and educators to ensure that prospective teachers have the relevant and necessary skills to face future educational demands.

Abstract

Ghana's education system is transforming significantly by implementing the National Pre-Tertiary Education Curriculum Framework (NPECF), emphasizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills over traditional rote learning. Translating these ambitious policy goals into effective classroom practices within a centralized system presents challenges. This research addresses this challenge through stakeholder analysis, examining how the involvement of policymakers, educators, parents, and local communities can bridge the gap between NPECF's theoretical ideals and practical classroom application. The research identifies potential roadblocks and opportunities for successful curriculum adoption by analyzing these diverse perspectives. Understanding the interactions and influences among policymakers, teachers, parents, and communities is crucial for transitioning smoothly from rote learning to a student-centered approach. This analysis highlights areas where stakeholders might need additional support or resources to embrace the new curriculum effectively. Ultimately, the findings can inform future educational reforms in Ghana and similar contexts, paving the way for a more effective and engaging learning experience for all students. Abstract

Ghana's schools face a severe teacher retention crisis, with only 36 percent of teachers in a district survey planning to stay in their roles. Researchers conducted a comprehensive survey of 138 teachers to investigate their reasons for wanting to leave the profession. Common themes emerged, including low pay, poor working conditions, and overwhelming workloads. Additionally, concerns about teacher well-being and the declining status of the teaching profession were highlighted as significant issues. The study sought to identify strategies to keep teachers engaged, employing a theory about employee turnover to guide the analysis. Researchers carefully examined the survey responses and pinpointed key strategies to address the crisis. These included reducing teacher workloads, improving working conditions, and enhancing the prestige and status of the teaching profession. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers seeking effective solutions to Ghana's teacher retention problems. The findings underscore the urgent need to address the factors driving teachers away and implement strategies to maintain a stable, motivated, and highly skilled teaching workforce, which is crucial for advancing Ghana's educational system.
