Abstract

The village has potential natural resources in agriculture and aquaculture ponds. Potential agriculture and pond systems use a rainfed system to irrigate rice fields and ponds. In addition, Kambingan Village already has a permanent irrigation network. The Cerme people certainly know how to reach Kambingan Village, but those from outside the Cerme Subdistrict need clear signage to avoid missing it when visiting. The type of road pavement entering the village is divided into 2 (two) types, namely paving pavement and asphalt pavement. The condition of the asphalt pavement is good, while the condition of the paving pavement is bumpy. The activity method in community service in Kambingan Village is the science and technology simulation method, where students redesign signage using design applications to create design concepts and engineering equipment for the fabrication and installation of signage. The stages carried out include identifying problems in the field, coordinating with the village chief, redesigning the signage board, fabricating the signage board, removing the old signage board, and installing new signage at a point determined by the village chief. The expected result is that the community receives information on directions to enter Kambingan Village through the installation of a new signage board, and that the road shoulder from Cerme District to Benjeng District gains color or character.

Abstract

Groundwater obtained from dug wells serves as the main domestic water source for communities along Jalan X, Kecamatan Gresik. Recently, oil contamination detected in several wells has raised significant environmental and public health concerns, while the pollution source has not been clearly identified. This study aims to assess Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon or TPH concentrations in dug well water and to determine the primary source of contamination. A case study with a descriptive quantitative approach was conducted through field observations and laboratory analysis of groundwater samples from three affected wells. TPH levels were measured using gas chromatography–flame ionization detector or GC-FID and evaluated against drinking water quality standards established by the Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017. The results showed TPH concentrations up to 2.5 mg/L, exceeding the safe drinking water threshold by 25-fold. The major finding identifies the contamination source as a leaking domestic drainage channel located only six meters from the wells, which violates the standard safe distance. This channel carries hydrocarbon waste from adjacent vehicle workshops, infiltrating the shallow aquifer. Therefore, immediate reconstruction of the drainage using pre-cast U-ditch and provision of a piped water system are necessary to protect community health.

Abstract

The finishing of walls significantly influences the visual appeal and longevity of the building structures especially in high-humidity regions. Moisture accumulation, poor material choice and improper construction practices can accelerate deterioration, leading to mold growth, discoloration, and paint peeling. This study aimed to identify the causes wall finishing damage and to determine the most effective both repair methods for enhancing durability in humid conditions. This study used a case study methodology involving the direct observation of residential building exhibiting wall damage. The findings reveal that high humidity and improper moisture transport within the wall material, is the main cause of wall damage, leading to mold development and weakening of the plaster layer, which in turn causes paint to peel. A comparison of the repair methods indicated that a denser mortar mix with a ratio of 1:1, combined with a waterproof primer and finishing paint, proved more optimal, effectively mitigating moisture effects and preventing recurring damage. To conclude, effective wall repair requires proper substrate preparation, suitable material selection, and moisture management. These insights offer practical advice for enhancing the wall finishing performance in humid areas.
