Abstract

The Islamic Center, located in Bambu Apus, East Jakarta, is a multifunctional building consisting of a mosque, auditorium, teaching and learning rooms and office space for managers. In this “pengabdian masyarakat”, the focus is office space. This is a concern because of the problem with the arrangement of the office space that cannot be fully functioned because there is no arrangement and/or interior design for the office space. Thus, the office space that should accommodate activities for users is not yet usable. Seeing these conditions, we, as a “pengabdian masyarakat” team at Universitas Indraprasta PGRI, are trying to hold discussions and coordinate with the Chairperson of PP Persis Jakarta and do “pengabdian masyarakat” which focusing on architecture design.

Abstract

Mosques serve not only as places of worship but also as social spaces that foster community interaction and activities. However, many mosque landscapes are not optimally designed, making them ill-equipped to accommodate social activities, passive recreation, and the comfort needs of worshippers. This community service project aims to develop a concept and design plan for the landscape of Al-Muttaqin Mosque that can improve the quality of the environment while strengthening the mosque’s social and religious functions. The methods employed include field surveys, identification of existing conditions, user needs analysis, design concept development, and landscape design visualization. The design results indicate that the landscape planning is achieved through the development of green open spaces, comfortable pedestrian paths, communal seating areas, shade-providing vegetation elements, and the reinforcement of the area’s identity through the use of materials and design elements that align with the mosque’s character. The design also integrates accessibility for all users by providing ramps and circulation routes connected to the mosque’s main areas. This arrangement is expected to create a more comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and functional environment so that the mosque can serve as a center for worship activities as well as a space for community social interaction.

Abstract

This community service project produced a conceptual interior design for Al-Muttaqin Mosque, integrating Islamic spiritual values with local wisdom. The design process adopted a participatory approach, involving mosque administrators and congregants to identify spatial needs and cultural identity. The main concept, “Simplicity in Wisdom,” is expressed through the use of natural materials such as wood, stone, and exposed brick, creating a warm and honest atmosphere in harmony with nature. A small reflective pool in front of the mihrab serves as a calming psychological element, while natural lighting enhances spiritual ambience and ecological balance. The mosque’s terrace functions as a social space that fosters interaction among worshippers, reflecting the local values of cooperation and togetherness. Overall, this design represents not only visual aesthetics but also a dialogue between tradition and modernity within the context of contemporary Islamic architecture in Indonesia.
