This study aims to analyze the ability of craftsmen in innovating purun woven mat products in Tanjung Atap Village, Tanjung Batu District. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach to explore the innovation practices carried out by local craftsmen. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study consisted of craftsmen, village government officials, and related stakeholders involved in supporting the development of purun woven mat handicrafts. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to obtain comprehensive findings. The results showed that the craftsmen's innovation ability was reflected in mastering basic weaving techniques, production skills, work experience, product design updates, individual creativity, government support, and availability of raw materials. Craftsmen also demonstrated adaptability to market demands by modifying products according to consumer preferences. The innovations carried out include changes in shape, motif, color, and size of products to increase product attractiveness, functionality, and market value. These innovations also contribute to improving product competitiveness and expanding marketing opportunities. The findings indicate that the craftsmen's innovation ability has developed, although it has not yet been optimal. Several challenges are still faced, such as limited training, lack of product diversification, and limited market access. Therefore, continuous support is needed through training, product development assistance, and marketing expansion. Keywords: Craftsmen Ability, Innovation, Purun Mat, Community Empowermen ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan pengrajin dalam melakukan inovasi pada kerajinan anyaman tikar purun di Desa Tanjung Atap Kecamatan Tanjung Batu. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif untuk menggali praktik inovasi yang dilakukan oleh pengrajin lokal. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari pengrajin, pemerintah desa, serta pihak terkait yang mendukung pengembangan kerajinan anyaman tikar purun. Analisis data dilakukan melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan untuk memperoleh temuan penelitian secara komprehensif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan inovasi pengrajin terlihat dari penguasaan teknik dasar anyaman, keterampilan proses produksi, pengalaman kerja, pembaruan desain produk, kreativitas individu, dukungan pemerintah, serta ketersediaan bahan baku. Pengrajin juga menunjukkan kemampuan beradaptasi terhadap kebutuhan pasar dengan melakukan modifikasi produk sesuai preferensi konsumen. Inovasi yang dilakukan meliputi perubahan bentuk, motif, warna, dan ukuran produk guna meningkatkan daya tarik, fungsi, serta nilai jual produk. Inovasi tersebut turut meningkatkan daya saing produk dan memperluas peluang pemasaran. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan inovasi pengrajin telah berkembang, namun belum optimal. Beberapa kendala masih dihadapi seperti terbatasnya pelatihan, kurangnya diversifikasi produk, serta keterbatasan akses pasar. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan dukungan berkelanjutan melalui pelatihan, pendampingan pengembangan produk, dan perluasan pemasaran.
