Abstract

The Walagara marriage tradition is the identity of the Tengger Tribe to legalize marriage by custom. The Tengger tribe experienced the acculturation of Hindu and Islamic cultures. The implementation of the Walagara marriage tradition, which uses mantras and worship rituals, is contrary to the teachings of Islam. This study aims to describe the existence and procedures for implementing the Walagara marriage tradition in Sapikerep Village, Probolinggo Regency, and analyze the symbolic meaning contained. The research method used is qualitative with descriptive type. The results showed that the Walagara marriage tradition is still maintained because the Sapikerep community still believes in the meaning and cultural values contained therein. The procedure for implementing this tradition is divided into preparation, core, and follow-up events. The symbolic meaning contained in the Walagara wedding tradition is taken from the procedure of implementation, mantras, tools, materials, and clothing. Tradisi pernikahan Walagara merupakan identitas Suku Tengger untuk mengesahkan pernikahan secara adat. Suku Tengger mengalami akulturasi budaya Hindu dan Islam. Pelaksanaan tradisi pernikahan Walagara menggunakan mantra serta ritual penyembahan yang bertentangan dengan ajaran agama Islam. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan eksistensi dan tata cara pelaksanaan tradisi pernikahan Walagara di Desa Sapikerep Kabupaten Probolinggo serta menganalisis makna simbolik yang terkandung di dalamnya. Metode penelitian yang dipakai yaitu kualitatif dengan jenis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan eksistensi tradisi pernikahan Walagara masih terjaga karena Masyarakat Sapikerep masih meyakini makna serta nilai budaya yang terkandung di dalamnya. Tata cara pelaksanaan tradisi ini dibagi menjadi tahap persiapan, inti dan acara lanjutan. Makna simbolik yang terkandung dalam tradisi pernikahan Walagara diambil dari tata cara pelaksanaan, mantra, alat, bahan, dan pakaian.

Abstract

Learning motivation is an important element in the success of the educational process, especially in learning Social Sciences (IPS) which is often considered monotonous and irrelevant by students. This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of Do or Learn Card learning media based on gamification integrated with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach to increase student learning motivation. This media is designed to provide a fun, participatory learning experience that is in accordance with the cultural background of students. The CRT approach is used to ensure that learning strategies value diversity and accommodate different learning styles. This study uses a development method based on the Design Thinking framework involving five stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The results of the study show that the use of this media has a significant impact on increasing student learning motivation, as indicated by the results of the pretest and posttest as well as positive responses from the satisfaction questionnaire.
