Abstract

Counseling on plants that have properties as natural anti-mosquito drugs in Podosugih Village, West Pekalongan District, Pekalongan City Abstract Indonesia is a tropical country that has a rainy and dry season. During the rainy season, many mosquitoes such as Aedes aegypti are found which cause dengue fever. One way to prevent the spread of these mosquitoes is to use insecticides such as lotions, electric, burning, and sprays. However, chemicals contained in mosquito repellent such as organophosphates, organochlorines, pyrethroids, carbamates, and DEET with excessive use can affect health. To overcome this, another alternative is needed, namely by utilizing plants as a safer natural mosquito repellent. Therefore, it is important to carry out community service regarding the introduction of anti-mosquito plants to prevent dengue fever. The purpose of this service is to increase public knowledge about alternative potential plants as natural mosquito repellents. The service method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR) targeting PKK mothers in Podosugih Village, West Pekalongan District, Pekalongan City. The results of the service analysis, based on the pretest and posttest values, showed an increase in public knowledge about plants that have the potential to be natural mosquito repellents. The results of the posttest scores (the highest 100% and the lowest 91%) showed an increase compared to the pretest scores (the highest 91% and the lowest 6%). The conclusion of this community service is that there has been an increase in public knowledge about plants that have the potential to be mosquito repellent and seen from the percentage increase in the posttest, it can be said that this community service was successful.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia continues to increase, where at the age of 25 - 34 years the prevalence of this disease is 9.30%, and for those aged more than 55 years to those aged less than 65 years 15.50%. To overcome the problem of hypercholesterolemia, there are various types of antihypercholesterolemic synthetic drugs, but sometimes these drugs have certain side effects. Therefore other alternatives that come from nature are needed. Bay leaves contain flavonoid compounds. This compound can lower cholesterol levels. Bay leaves boiled and brewed in the morning and evening have been proven to reduce cholesterol levels. From this background, providing community service regarding bay leaf drinks is necessary to help lower cholesterol levels. The bay leaf drink preparation was chosen because of its ease and acceptability which is easily applied by the public. The target of this service is Kemranggon Hamlet, Tanjung Kulon Village, Kajen District, Pekalongan. The service method used is participatory action research (PAR). This community service increases public understanding regarding making boiled bay leaf to help lower cholesterol. This can be concluded by increasing pretest and posttest scores.
