Abstract

This study is part of an ongoing teacher-led initiative in understanding the co-creation of a transformative learning experience in the online event marketing classroom. The study measures the impact of student engagement on student-defined learning success in online learning. Using a mixed methods approach, it investigates data collected through a survey questionnaire in three different years from students who enrolled in two course subjects. This study demonstrates that student engagement is significantly correlated with and predicts learner-defined learning success in online learning. Furthermore, it finds that there were statistically significant differences in levels of student engagement and learning success among different cohorts, particularly when compared to cohorts who took the course subject in the later year. The differences may have been a result of the development of skills appropriate for online learning, and in improvements in course content and delivery.

Abstract

This is a collaborative autoethnographic account of two educators' experience teaching undergraduate students a course that integrates and activates service-learning principles before, during, and after the pandemic. It is a narrative of the circumstances and problems encountered, how they addressed these issues, and how they addressed problems, resolved issues, and improved learning outcomes. The study also discussed outcomes resulting from the steps they undertook and explored how they want to develop and enhance their courses moving forward. In discussing their experiences, they realized that the pandemic allowed them to reflect on their teaching philosophy and pedagogy, which led to improving their teaching practices. They believe that these improvements led to better learning outcomes. Furthermore, sharing experiences led to discussing unique perspectives on issues and problems, providing insight on how to solve problems, resolve issues, and improve learning outcomes.

Abstract

Micro and social entrepreneurs face multiple challenges, including limited access to funding, knowledge systems, networks, and markets, which limit the growth and development of their ventures. This study seeks to understand how the participation in crowdfunding and its utilization to internationalize can help micro and social enterprises address challenges through social capital. Through a narrative review of literature anchored on the resource-based and knowledge-based theories of the firm and the theory of social capital, this study finds that crowdfunding provides access to funding, knowledge systems, and networks. Moreover, the participation in crowdfunding provides access to large, international markets. However, despite these benefits, there remains challenges to micro and social enterprise participation in crowdfunding as there is low awareness and adoption in developing countries. Furthermore, there is still question on crowdfunding’s viability as an internationalization strategy. The study ends by identifying directions for future research.

Abstract

The role of learners in the learning process has increasingly evolved in the learning process, leaning towards a more active and participatory role in the learning process. The article explores the value of co-creation of learning and proposes that this value-in-use in the co-creation process is the learner’s intrinsic motivation. The study attempts to extend the self-determination theory by exploring learner experiences and presents a conceptual framework. The study finds that students that co-create their learning experiences in event marketing classes lead to self-motivation.
