Abstract

Training on making Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) has been held in Curug Goong Village, Serang Regency, Banten. VCO is pure coconut oil which has many benefits with a relatively easy manufacturing process. Curug Goong Village has potential as a producer of coconuts but has not been used optimally, so this activity aims to train the community to be able to process coconuts into products with a higher selling value. The training on making VCO was attended by 30 participants consisting of coconut farmers and housewives. This training was carried out in 3 stages of activity, these are: the preparation, the implementation and the evaluation stage. This training received a positive response from the people of Curug Goong Village. The evaluation results show 31 participants took part in socialization and training, 26 participants filled out questionnaires. After the training, the people of Curug Goong Village became more familiar with VCO, could differentiate between ordinary coconut oil and VCO, and could practice it at home.

Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of B-type CHAp based on mangrove crab shells (Scylla serrata) as a source of calcium using the precipitation method has been successfully carried out. Based on the FTIR results, the substitution of carbonate ion for phosphate, which indicates the formation of B-type CHAp, is characterized by the appearance of absorption at wave numbers (CO32-) 1426 and 875 cm-1, PO43- at wave numbers 965, 619 & 569 cm-1. The XRD results show that diffraction peaks (211), (300), and (202) appear at an angle of 2θ ranging from 31°-34°, and there is a phenomenon of a-axis contraction and c-axis expansion in the HAp lattice structure. The SEM-EDX results show that the Ca/P ratio is 1.72, and the carbonate content is 5.01 wt%. All of these parameters are characteristics of CHAp, so it can be concluded that type-B CHAp has been formed.

Abstract

In this research, the preparation and characterization of durian peel activated carbon with acid and base activators has been carried out, as well as testing its performance in reducing COD levels in Sains Laboratory wastewater. Synthesis of durian peel activated carbon was carried out using the wet impregnation method followed by calcination at a temperature of 700⁰C for 3 hours. Characterization was carried out using FTIR and SEM-EDX. FTIR spectra results show changes in functional groups in activated carbon after activation with absorption at a wave number of 1691 cm-1 which shows a stretched C=C group. SEM micrograph results show that the pore size of activated carbon increases after activation. The activity test was carried out by comparing the reduction in COD levels in laboratory waste using activated carbon adsorbents activated by HCl and NaOH. COD levels in laboratory liquid waste were 29493 mg/L. An HCl concentration of 0.4 M was the optimum concentration to reduce the COD concentration in laboratory waste by 20.69%. These results show that activated carbon from durian peel could reduce COD levels and can be used as an alternative wastewater treatment in laboratory.

Abstract

In this study, a zeolite/Hydrilla verticillata composite adsorbent was prepared and characterized, and its performance was evaluated for the adsorption of Naphtol Blue Black (NBB) dye. Natural zeolite sourced from Bayah, Banten, was used as the base material. The composite was synthesized using the wet impregnation technique. Characterization was conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). FTIR analysis showed absorption bands at 2919 cm-1, 514 cm- 1, and 1014 cm-1, indicating the successful formation of the zeolite/Hydrilla verticillata composite. XRD results revealed that the Bayah natural zeolite contains modernite and heulandite crystal phases, with an average crystallite size of 9.3 nm calculated using the Scherrer equation. SEM images indicated that the zeolite surface was largely covered by Hydrilla verticillata particles. The adsorption experiment showed that the composite adsorbent achieved a 34.07% removal efficiency of NBB dye. The adsorption process followed the Freundlich isotherm model, with an R2 value of 0.9995 and a maximum adsorption capacity of 13.59 mg/g.

Abstract

AbstractCommunity Service (PkM) was carried out by the Lecturer Team at the Faculty of Science, Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin State Islamic University, Banten at SMAN 3, Serang City, which aims to instill understanding and concepts of virtual practicum using PhET simulation in Concentration material. Participants in this training are class XII students at SMAN Kota Serang. The activity stages are the preparation stage, implementation stage and reporting stage. PkM activities ran smoothly and were well received by partners. This can be seen from the results of a survey filled out directly by partners consisting of six indicators of partner satisfaction. Based on the survey, 45% of students/partners strongly agreed, 51% agreed and 4% disagreed with the statement on the 6 indicators of partner satisfaction, while 0% strongly disagreed with the 6 indicators of partner satisfaction. If we look at the partner responses agreeing and strongly agreeing, the figure is 96%, so it can be concluded that this activity was said to be successful because more than 90% of partners responded well to this activity. Keywords: virtual lab; PhET simulation; concentration.
