Abstract

The size, shape of cells, number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin content between each class of animal can be different. This study aims to examine the comparison of hemoglobin levels, number and structure of erythrocytes in five classes of vertebrates. The animal blood used in this study consisted of five species representing each class, namely Clarias batrachus representing the pisces, Bufo sp. represents the amphibian, Varanus salvator represents the reptile, Columba livia represents the aves, and Mus musculus represents the mammal. Hemoglobin levels were tested using the Sahli method, while the number and structure of erythrocytes used a hemocytometer and Neubauer counting chamber which were observed under a microscope with a magnification of 40x10. The results showed that hemoglobin levels in Clarias batrachus, Bufo sp., Varanus salvator, Columba livia, and Mus musculus were 3.8 g/dl, 6.8 g/dl, 10.4 g/dl, 10 .8 g/dl, and 8.2 g./dl. The number of erythrocytes was 780,000/mm3, 320,000/mm3, 1,900,000/mm3, 3,270,000/mm3, and 3,960,000/mm3, respectively. In terms of erythrocyte structure, it was found that Clarias batrachus has a round structure with a nucleus, Bufo sp., Varanus salvator, and Columba livia have an oval shape with a nucleus, while Mus musculus has a biconcave disc shape without a nucleus. The conclusion of this study shows that the highest hemoglobin levels are found in Columba livia and the lowest in Clarias batrachus. The highest number of erythrocytes was found in Mus musculus, and the lowest in Bufo sp. All erythrocytes in the vertebrate class have a nucleus, except in mammals

Indonesia is the second country with a high level of biodiversity and culture from each region. One area that has high biodiversity and culture is the city of Cirebon. The unique culture of Cirebon City which combines aspects of biodiversity and culture is the Panjang Jimat Ritual which is carried out at the Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon. This ritual is carried out on the night of 12 Rabiul Awwal which aims to commemorate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. However, until now, there has been no research that examines the various types of plants used in this ceremony, even though knowledge of the types of plants used can help to determine the status of natural resources, the distribution of plants, and the interactions between plants and people in the city of Cirebon. Therefore, this study aims to identify various types of plants and their symbolic meanings used in the Panjang Jimat ritual. The research method used is descriptive quantitative by collecting data through interviews and observation. The results showed that there were 18 plants used in this ceremony which included Oryza sativa, Cocos nucifera, Rosa sp., Mangifera indica, Musa paradisiaca, Magnolia alba, Curcuma longa, Syzygium aromaticum, Zingiber officinale, Cinnamomum verum, Jasminum sambac, Styrax japonica, Cananga odorata, Citrus sp., Bambusa sp., Arenga pinnata, Salacca zalacca, and Malus sp. This research is the first time it has been conducted, so ethnobotanical studies are very important to determine the interaction between plants and the local people of Cirebon.

Abstract

Mango (Mangifera indica) is one of the plants from the Anacardiaceae family that is most widely cultivated in Indonesia because of its high economic value. As a result of plant cultivation, Mangifera indica has very diverse varieties. Apart from that, the existence of other plants that have almost the same body structure, especially from other genus Mangifera, makes it important to know the true morphology and anatomy of Mangifera indica. So, this research aims to determine the morphology and anatomy of Mangifera indica. The main method used in this research is literature study from various articles on the internet. The results of this research discuss the morphology and anatomy of the leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruit and seeds of Mangifera indica in detail and comprehensively so that they are easier to understand. Also added are several studies regarding Mangifera indica varieties which aim to differentiate between the morphology and anatomy of Mangifera indica and its varieties. The conclusion of this research states that Mangifera indica is a plant that has unique morphological and anatomical characteristics, which can differentiate this species from other species in the same genus.
