Abstract

ABSTRACT People with diabetes in Bogor City were at high risk of developing peripheral artery disease (PAD); however, early detection was rarely conducted due to limited knowledge and screening facilities. This study aimed to examine the implementation of PAD screening using the Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) method and to assess participants’ understanding of diabetic foot complication prevention. The methods included foot health education, foot care demonstration, PAD screening using ABPI, individual counseling, and training on reading ABPI results among 45 diabetic participants at Posbindu/Posyandu Lansia and Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) in Bogor City. Out of 45 participants, 28 had normal ABPI values, 12 were at moderate PAD risk, and 5 were at high PAD risk who were subsequently referred; additionally, participants’ understanding of foot care and PAD warning signs improved after the educational activities. ABPI screening was effective in detecting PAD risk early, and health education improved participants’ knowledge on preventing diabetic foot complications. It is recommended that this program be routinely integrated into Puskesmas and Posbindu/Posyandu Lansia to support community-based diabetic foot complication prevention. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI), Foot Health Screening.
