Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out how the picture series can be employed to improve students’ achievement in writing narrative text. This research was a classroom action research. This research consisted of two cycles; each consisted of four stages, namely: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this research were the Tenth Grade students of SMK Negeri 4 Penajam Paser Utara. In this research the researcher acted as the English teacher. The instruments used to collect the data in this research were an observation sheet, field notes, interview, students’ questionnaire and test. The data analysis of this study was descriptive qualitative and a bit of quantitative measurement to find the percentage of success. Based on the data analysis from each activity, it can be seen that there is a significant difference of the students’ achievement in the pretest and posttest. The students’ achievement in the posttest is higher than that of the pretest. The finding of the research indicated that the picture series could improve the students’ achievement in writing narrative text. The improvement can be seen from the increase of the students’ assessment from preliminary test, cycle one and cycle two. In preliminary study that just 10 students (37%) passed the preliminary test, while 27 students (63%) students were unsuccessful. There was just one student who got excellent grade. In the first cycle only thirteen students or 48% got less than 60, four students or 15% got only passing grade that is 60, eight students or 30% got 70, one students or 7% got 75. And in the second cycle there was significant improvement. There were just 3 students (11%) got less than 60. Another 24 students (89%) got higher than passing grade. It was suggested that the English teachers employ the picture series to improve students’ achievement in writing narrative text. However, to get the passing score of the test in this research should be planned carefully. Finally, other researchers, one suggested employing picture series would bring the students to the freedom of expressing their feeling in writing. It built their self confident automatically.

Abstract

Kawasan Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) merupakan bagian dari hutan tropis lembap dengan tingkat keanekaragaman hayati tinggi. Kekayaan alam ini secara turun temurun telah dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat yang tinggal di sekitar hutan, namun belum maksimal. SMK Negeri 4 Penajam Paser Utara sebagai bagian dari masyarakat di kawasan IKN turut berperan dalam memaksimalkan pemanfaatan hasil hutan sebagai sumber daya pangan yang memiliki nilai ekonomi. Salah satu sumber daya pangan yang terdapat di lingkungan hutan tropis lembap adalah buah cempedak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi manajemen pendidikan berbasis hutan tropis lembap dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di SMK Negeri 4 Penajam Paser Utara. Sebagai SMK Pusat Keunggulan bidang kuliner, sekolah meningkatkan pemanfaatan sumber daya pangan lokal, yaitu buah cempedak. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa dokumentasi, observasi, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan implementasi manajemen pendidikan berbasis hutan tropis lembap, SMK Negeri 4 Penajam Paser Utara berhasil: 1) meningkatkan mutu pendidikan sebagai SMK Pusat Keunggulan bidang kuliner. 2) meningkatkan pemanfaatan dan menambah nilai ekonomi buah cempedak sebagai sumber daya pangan lokal. Dalam hal ini memanfaatkan fungsi hutan sebagai sumber mata pencaharian.

Abstract

Abstract: Formation of a positive image of SMK is an effort to increase the level of competition amidst the progress of the development of the Capital Region of Nusantara. The purpose of this study is to describe the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of Public Relations (PR) strategies in strengthening the image and positioning of State Vocational High Schools in the Capital Region of the Archipelago. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method in three State Vocational High Schools in Penajam Paser Utara Regency, the Capital Region of the Archipelago, data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observations and documentation, with data validity checks through triangulation of techniques and sources. The results of the study indicate that public relations strategy planning is carried out through an early school year meeting with a focus on strengthening external relations, school branding, and increasing industrial cooperation. The organization of the strategy is adjusted to the conditions and resources of each school. The implementation of the strategy involves the use of social media, as well as active collaboration with the business world and industry. Program evaluations are carried out periodically to measure the effectiveness in building the school's image. This study confirms that public relations have a strategic role in shaping public perception and increasing the competitiveness of vocational schools, especially amidst the rapid development of the Public Relations; Image; School Positioning; Capital Region of the Archipelago. Keywords: Public Relations, Image, School Positioning, Capital Region of Nusantara Abstrak: Pembentukan citra positif SMK adalah sebuah upaya terhadap meningkatnya tingkat persaingan di tengah kemajuan pembangunan Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan perencanaan, pengorganisasian, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi strategi Hubungan Masyarakat (Humas) dalam memperkuat citra dan positioning Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri (SMKN) di Kawasan Ibu Kota Nusantara. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus di tiga SMK Negeri di kabupaten Penajam Paser Utara kawasan Ibu Kota Nusantara, teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi, dengan pemeriksaan keabsahan data melalui triangulasi teknik dan sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perencanaan strategi humas dilakukan melalui rapat awal tahun ajaran dengan fokus pada penguatan hubungan eksternal, branding sekolah, dan peningkatan kerja sama industri. Pengorganisasian strategi menyesuaikan dengan kondisi dan sumber daya masing-masing sekolah. Pelaksanaan strategi melibatkan penggunaan media sosial, serta kolaborasi aktif dengan dunia usaha dan industri. Evaluasi program dilakukan secara berkala untuk mengukur efektivitas dalam membangun citra sekolah. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa humas memiliki peran strategis dalam membentuk persepsi publik dan meningkatkan daya saing SMK, khususnya di tengah perkembangan pesat Ibu Kota Nusantara.
