Abstract

A crane is a tool used to make it easier and easier to move and lift goods. This research aims to find a solution when the Joy Stick experiences sudden troubleshooting, how to overcome it, and prevent accidents while working. The creation of this tool is a miniature ship crane using a 220V Ac motor where the fan belt is the connecting part of the movement and can be controlled via a Joy stick. The design of this AC motor control system entirely uses the ESP32 microcontroller as the brain to be able to carry out slewing, luffing and hoisting movements. Researchers used research and development research methods to create and develop this crane prototype with the aim of producing and developing a crane prototype that is effective, efficient and easier to maintain. The test results of this prototype can carry out slewing movements to the left and right with a limit of 800, luffing movements upwards with a limit of 800 and hoisting.

Abstract

As an important means of sea transportation for the distribution of goods and human mobility between islands, ships require a reliable prime mover to avoid wear or damage, especially when overspeeding occurs which can result in fire. Therefore, a prototype was created that uses an IR Obstacle sensor to monitor the RPM speed of the rotating engine. By using Arduino Uno as a processor, this prototype is able to display the RPM value on the LCD and provide a signal in the form of a green light if the speed is below 4000 Rpm, as well as a red light and buzzer sound if overspeed occurs above 4000 Rpm, followed by the engine turning off after 15 seconds. Testing shows that this prototype has a high level of accuracy, with a difference between 0.08% to 2.73% and an average difference of 1.003%.

Abstract

Shipping safety is everything that can be developed related to accident prevention measures when carrying out work in the shipping sector. Shipping safety and security is a state of fulfillment of transportation safety and security requirements in waters, ports and maritime environments. Fire extinguishing equipment is vital in ensuring operational safety on board and meeting the requirements set by SOLAS. Regular and regular maintenance is required to ensure that fire extinguishing equipment is always in a ready-to-use condition in the event of an emergency. Conducting periodic drills aims to find out the extent of the readiness of fire extinguishing equipment to be used and its completeness. This study has the purpose of finding out: 1) Factors causing fire extinguishing equipment in KM. Lambelu is less than optimal 2) The impact that will occur if routine maintenance is not carried out on the fire extinguisher. The method used by the researcher this time is a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study are as follows, The main causes of damage to light fire extinguishers in KM. Lambelu is the lack of inspection and supervision that is carried out periodically on the equipment, while other supporting factors are the lack of understanding and skills of the crew in operating light fire extinguishers, the use of light fire extinguishers that are not in accordance with the SOPs, and exposure to the marine environment that causes light fire extinguishers to corrode or rust. The impact of not carrying out routine maintenance is a decrease in preparedness in times of emergency, in addition to that it will cause financial losses, operational disruptions, and reduce public trust in the company.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of container lashing techniques in reducing the risk of cargo damage on MV. Tanto Bersinar. Lashing is a method of securing containers using equipment such as twist locks, lashing bars, and turnbuckle s to ensure cargo stability and safety during sea transport. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach through direct observation, interviews with crew members, and documentation. The findings indicate that the lashing technique on board has not been fully effective due to several factors, including insufficient quantity and poor condition of lashing equipment, limited crew understanding of proper procedures, and lack of regular training and supervision. The ineffectiveness of the lashing process leads to safety risks, operational delays, financial losses, and reputational damage to the company. This study recommends providing adequate and well-maintained lashing equipment, conducting routine crew training, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, and improving oversight to meet maritime safety standards. Proper implementation of lashing techniques is essential to minimize cargo damage and enhance the overall safety of maritime operations.

Abstract

On the basis of the foregoing, Law No. 17 of 2008 concerning Shipping which is a refinement of Law Number 21 Years 1992, so that the operation of shipping as a system can provide the greatest benefit to all the people, nation and country, cultivate and develop a maritime spirit, by prioritizing public interest, and environmental sustainability, coordination between the center and the regions, as well as state defense and security. The aim of this research is to describe policy issues regarding passanger protection on shipping accident.Based on the explanation that has been given, this study provides the following key conclusions: Legal protection for related ship passengers with the accident divided into two parts, namely the efforts made preventive and repressive measures. Preventive Effort is a preventive measure, it must be done in order to avoid accidents on the ship. Where preventive efforts are readiness is not only done in the readiness of the ship itself, but the readiness of the port is also involved taken into account considering that many factors can lead to accidents both internal factors as well as the external itself, as well as the distance travelled distant ship. This readiness is in the form of preparation documents and equipment on the ship so that it can running optimally. Repressive measures taken by following all directions from the crew and other competent authorities, as well as all of these actions by remaining calm and not panic, it was done with a purpose minimize further and more fatal losses such as loss of life during an accident.

Abstract

Oil spills from tanker operations threaten marine ecosystems, especially in busy lanes such as the Malacca Strait, where operational failures in manifold connections during cargo handling are a major contributor to incidents. This study analyzes oil spill prevention efforts in accordance with MARPOL Annex I on the MT. Capella and identifies the causal factors through a descriptive qualitative case study. Data were collected from purposive sampling of key informants (Master, Chief Officer, Boatswain), semi-structured interviews, participant observation during 12 months of sailing practice, and analysis of ship documents, processed through thematic reduction, source triangulation, and interpretive verification. The findings indicate the systematic implementation of preventive measures including pre-operation toolbox meetings, visual inspections of reducers/gaskets/flange, installation of drip trays, and recording in the Oil Record Book, which successfully controlled a minor leak on February 17, 2025, without significant marine pollution. The main causes included technical factors (gasket wear, uneven bolt tightening, pressure surges) and human factors (lack of strict supervision, weak communication), confirmed through triangulation. The conclusions confirm that procedural compliance is effective but hampered by a lack of scheduled maintenance and scalable emergency response. Recommendations include standardizing torque wrenches, routine gasket stocking, intensive drilling, and regulatory audits to optimize Annex I compliance in Indonesian tanker operations.
