Abstract

This article explains the importance of Hadith research, specifically detailing its purpose and urgency. Hadith research is a deep and critical study of the text (matan) and chain of narration (sanad) of Hadiths, which is dynamic and employs certain methods to determine the validity of Hadith as a proof (hujjah) for the truth of Islamic teachings. The main issue in this study is the urgency of researching the sanad and matan of Hadiths as essential elements for determining the quality of a Hadith. To answer this question, this study uses a type of library research. The results of the research conclude that there are several legal urgencies underlying the importance of Hadith research: first, related to the position of Hadith as a source of Islamic law; second, related to the historicity of Hadith.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the differing interpretations among Islamic scholars regarding Q.S. 24:33. While the majority of classical and contemporary exegetes agree that Q.S. 24:32 commands marriage for single individuals, there is a divergence of opinion concerning Q.S. 24:33. Most scholars argue that if one is unable to marry, they should maintain chastity until Allah grants them sufficiency. In contrast, Abu Ja'far Muhammad bin Jarir al-Tabari and Ibn Mas'ud interpret this verse as an indication to hasten marriage, even in conditions of poverty, suggesting that family members should provide financial assistance to facilitate the marriage. This approach is highly recommended for single individuals, as marriage is considered more effective in preserving chastity than fasting. Therefore, this study tries to read the content of Q.S. 24: 32-33 with Ma'na-cum-Maghza theory as an approach to answer contemporary problems. This research is qualitative in nature with the type of data written in the form of primary data, namely Q.S. 24: 32-33 about the recommendation to marry and protect themselves and secondary data in the form of hadith, tafsir from classical to contemporary centuries, books, journals, theses-dissertations, and the web that can help run the research. This research produces answers in the form of first, the content of Q.S. 24: 32-33 by analyzing the linguistics of several key words shows that these two verses are not only a matter of marriage and self-preservation, but also concern personal issues and characteristics.  Second, Q.S. 24: 32-33 as an affirmation of marriage is a very noble worship that includes a very correct way to control one's lust because it can be channeled with a legal partner and avoid things that are prohibited by religion and the state. Third, Q.S. 24: 32-33 if drawn in the context of today as a reference for people who want marriage to be able to afford and prepare various pre- and post-marriage requirements that must be met. Financially in the form of property, dowry, reception fees, costs of life after marriage (nafkah). Psychologically in the form of readiness for the science of marriage, mental readiness, readiness to meet the physical and mental needs of the family.

Abstract

This study examines the crucial role of Hadith Ahad in Islamic teachings, both in matters of faith (aqidah) and other aspects. If Hadith Ahad cannot be used as a proof (hujjah), many Islamic teachings understood and believed by the majority of Muslims would be displaced. This consequence highlights the importance of understanding and accepting the authority of Hadith Ahad in maintaining the continuity and integrity of Islamic teachings. Rejection of Hadith Ahad would have a broad impact on the understanding and beliefs of the Muslim community. The Mu’tazilah and Jahmiyah are groups that understand religious sources by prioritizing reason, which naturally leads to differences with other groups. This study covers the definition of Hadith Ahad and its authority, the Mu’tazilah and Jahmiyah sects' rejection of Hadith Ahad, and discusses the modern scholars' rejection of Hadith Ahad, especially in the establishment of faith (aqidah).

Abstract

This paper investigates the comparison between Jarh wa Ta'dil and modern Islamic studies in understanding the history of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Utilizing the theory of Islamization of knowledge proposed by Raj Ismail al-Faruqi, the researcher seeks to find a middle ground between these two disciplines. The Islamization of knowledge aims to enrich Islamic scholarship by incorporating not only pure Islamic sciences but also modern knowledge. This involves strengthening modern sciences, problem-solving methods, understanding issues, and providing solutions. Jarh wa Ta'dil, which primarily focuses on the chain of narration (sanad), and modern Islamic studies, which dominate the study of the text (matan), can be synergized and made complementary. This would create a harmonious relationship between the two scholarly approaches. In essence, the historical study of Islam will be stronger through the discipline of Jarh wa Ta'dil, ensuring the credibility of transmission validity, while interpretation will be supported by modern Islamic studies. The conclusion is that there is no need to contradict the two approaches, but rather they can mutually reinforce each other. For example, in the case of Isra' Mi'raj, Jarh wa Ta'dil is necessary to obtain the complete narrative data, which can then be analyzed with modern scientific approaches to further develop and sharpen the understanding of this spectacular miracle.
