Abstract

Caregiver burden is commonly used in nursing literature, however, a study exploring the caregiver burden of an advanced lung cancer patient has not yet been clearly defined. Therefore, this study Aims to develop an operational definition and analyze the attributes, antecedents and consequents of the theoretical concept of caregiver burden of advanced lung cancer. An electronic search from four different sources, such as online databases (PubMed, CINAHL (Cummulative Index for Nursing and Allied Health) Plus with Full Text, Chochrane Library, Google Scholar), journal articles, dictionaries and official health websites (both government and non-government). The paper adopted the framework by Walker and Advant. The attributes, antecedents and consequents of the concept were identified. The three attributes of caregiver burden were identified as Low Self- Efficacy, Multifaced Strain, and Overload. The antecedents included Caregiver’s characteristics, Health status, Insufficient financial resources, and social support. The consequences of the caregiver’s burden resulted in negative change, including decreased quality of Life, Health function, and psychological problems. A clear definition of caregiver burden was developed. The finding of this concept analysis can be used in Nursing practice, education and administration

Abstract

Dignity therapy (DT) aims to enhance the dignity, meaning, and emotional well-being of terminally ill cancer patients. While research investigates DT’s application in palliative care, a comprehensive systematic review synthesizing its effects remains lacking. Objective: This systematic review assesses the efficacy of DT in improving psychological and existential outcomes for terminally ill cancer patients. Methods: A systematic review adhering to the PRISMA guidelines was conducted. Searches across Medline, PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL databases yielded 113 references, which were screened against 10 studies meeting inclusion criteria. Results: DT demonstrates positive effects on dignity, sense of purpose, meaning in life, and hope. However, its impact on psychosocial distress, particularly depression and anxiety, is inconclusive. DT’s acceptance rate was high, with over 80% of participants reporting satisfaction. Quality of life improvements varied, with some significant enhancements and others exhibiting minimal impact. Conclusion: DT is a feasible intervention that offers psychosocial benefits for terminally ill cancer patients in palliative care settings. It enhances dignity, facilitates family communication, and offers existential relief. Further research is necessary to standardize protocols, conduct long-term follow-ups, and integrate DT into interdisciplinary palliative care models.

Abstract

Fracture surgery is a significant stressor that may trigger anxiety, not only in patients but also in family members waiting during the procedure. Effective anxiety management can be supported through non-pharmacological interventions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect that zikr spiritual treatment has on the anxiety levels of the families of patients who are undergoing surgery to repair a fractured femur. A quasi-experimental strategy, specifically a group pre-test and post-test design that contrasts the intervention group with the control group, is used in this quantitative study design. There were a total of forty-two participants in this study. Of these forty-two participants, twenty-one were assigned to the intervention group, while the other twenty-one were assigned to the control group. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Y (STAI-Y) scale was utilized to assess the degree of anxiety in the intervention and control groups both before to and during the intervention. In the intervention group, zikr therapy was administered for a duration of 10 minutes. The Wilcoxon test results indicated a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) in the intervention group and a p-value of 0.083 (p > 0.05) in the control group. The Mann-Whitney test produced a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which provided evidence that zikr treatment had a substantial impact on the intervention group and that there was a significant difference in anxiety levels between the control group and the intervention group. Zikr therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing anxiety. These findings indicate that zikr therapy may serve as a valuable non-pharmacological approach to managing anxiety. Further studies are recommended to explore its long-term effects and broader applicability in different clinical contexts.
