Abstract

Several studies generalized that mathematical problem-solving ability, mathematics self-concept, and learning achievement were interconnected. This research investigated the direct effect of mathematical problem-solving ability on learning achievement, the direct effect of mathematics self-concept on learning achievement and mathematical problem-solving ability, as well as the indirect effect of mathematics self-concept on learning achievement through mathematical problem-solving ability. A total of 449 eighth-grade students from 12 public high schools in Yogyakarta were selected using proportional stratified random sampling. Mathematical problem-solving data was collected through a test, whereas mathematics self-concept data was collected through questionnaires. In addition, learning achievement data was collected from mathematics scores on mid-semester examinations. Descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling were used to analyze the data. This research concludes that (1) mathematical problem-solving ability, mathematics self-concept, and learning achievement are categorized as moderate, (2) mathematics self-concept has a significant direct effect on learning achievement but has no significant direct effect on mathematical problem-solving ability, (3) mathematical problem-solving ability has a significant direct effect on learning achievement, and (4) there is no significant indirect effect of mathematics self-concept on learning achievement through mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has hampered learning while at the same time making teachers and students learn to carry out online learning. There are obstacles in the implementation of online learning such as the difficulty for teachers to engage active students and decreased student achievement. To overcome this, there is a need for learning innovation by implementing blended learning. The blended learning program is a learning model that combines face-to-face learning with online learning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the blended learning program at SD N 1 Baturan and to find out the supporting and inhibiting factors in implementing blended learning. The method used in this research is a case study with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the evaluation show that the blended learning program at SD N 1 Baturan has been implemented well even though it has several obstacles and there are several supporting and inhibiting factors for the blended learning program. Supporting factors include the school environment, government, and teaching staff, while inhibiting factors include facilities and infrastructure, students' technological literacy, and face-to-face time limitations.

Abstract

Learning modules are important for implementing learning in the current Indonesia National Curriculum. Some learning courses specifically teach students how to design good learning modules. This research aimed to explore the suitability of learning modules created by preservice mathematics teacher students and the factors that cause the inappropriateness of these learning modules. Qualitative phenomenology research was conducted on 49 preservice mathematics teacher students from the State Islamic University in Kediri who attended lectures on designing learning modules. To obtain data on the conformity of learning modules, documentation of the results of learning modules on 16 aspects of learning modules was used, while to triangulate the factors causing the non-conformity of learning modules, interviews were conducted with respondents. The research results show that 10 aspects are in the very good category, 4 in the good category, and 3 in the poor category. According to students, the factors that cause the inappropriateness of learning modules are mostly in the preparation of core activity designs, including the preparation of learning steps based on model syntax and learning strategies, preparation of curiosity questions, and planning time allocation for each step taken. Further research can be carried on testing the effectiveness of implementing learning using learning modules that are prepared and implementing effective strategies in developing the ability to prepare learning modules

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze woven bamboo models in Yogyakarta based on Liki Design. Liki Design was sand painting design which was analyzed by Paul Gerdes. This study also described the integration of the results analysis in school mathematics. This research is a qualitative with an ethnomathematics approach. The woven bamboo model was analyzed based on the stages of data collection through interviews, documentation and collection of audiovisual materials, data separation, data analysis carried out by determining the main motif, coding the woven motifs into a matrix, analyzing using Liki Design, and conducting assessments between raters to prove the validity of the results.  Based on the results by analyzed of 13 woven bamboo motifs obtained 6 corresponding matrix models. The integration of research results can be done in 2 ways, namely as context and content. As a context, the results of the analysis of woven motifs could be used to teach the context of matrix orders, number motifs, matrix operations, and geometric transformations. While integration in terms of content, research results can be used as content for mathematical exploration and technological literacy in the learning process.

Abstract

Mathematical communication is a crucial 21st-century skill related to achievement and other skills. This study aims to analyze the differences in mathematical communication abilities and describe the difficulties male preservice teachers (MPT) and female preservice teachers (FPT) face in solving gender-biased Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) problems. This research employs a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design. The respondents, selected through purposive sampling, consisted of 4 MPTs and 10 FPTs. Data on mathematical communication abilities were obtained through a gender-biased HOTS problem-solving test. The respondents' difficulties in solving the problems were gathered through interviews. The results indicate differences between MPT and FPT mathematical communication skills using symbols and mathematical notation in solving problems. Student's difficulties in solving gender-biased HOTS problems are unfamiliarity and disinterest in the context. This study implies that education should emphasize contextual understanding and utilize gender-neutral problems to enhance mathematical communication skills.
