Abstract

Abstract

Background: Fitness is closely linked to aerobic capacity, which depends on the availability of oxygen to meet the needs of the blood and facilitate the burning process to provide energy to maximise the performance of the body's organs. Under certain conditions, such as disabilities, reduced function, or certain diseases that prevent physical activity, especially in the elderly, the aerobic process may not function optimally. This study investigates the correlation between fitness level and physical activity in elderly patients at the Muhammadiyah Community Welfare Development Hospital (RS PKU) in Bantul, Yogyakarta. Methods: The research design is cross-sectional, using purposive sampling. To assess fitness and physical activity levels, the six-minute walk test (6MWT) and the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) were used in the study. Thirty-six (36) responded to the questionnaires and participated in the study. The analysis of the data was performed using the Spearman rank correlation test. Results: The Pearson correlation test showed that there was a significant correlation (r = 0.657** and p-value = 0.000) between fitness level and physical activity. Conclusion: There is a strong correlation between fitness level and physical activity in elderly patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul.

Abstract

Background: Forward head posture (FHP) is a postural problem in the cervical area characterized by the position of the tragus in front of the plumb line in the sagittal plane with a craniovertebral angle (CVA) value <50°. This condition can be caused by work positions or activities that tend to look down for a long duration. Postural corrective exercise is one of the exercises that can improve posture. Objective: Knowing the effectiveness of postural corrective exercise on posture improvement in students with FHP.Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental pre & post-test design. Respondents were 68 students of Universitas 'Aisyiyah Yogyakarta with CVA <50° who were then randomly divided into 2 groups. namely Group A (postural corrective exercise) and Group B (self-postural corrective exercise). CVA measurement was performed using the On Protractor application. Results: There was a significant increase in CVA after postural corrective exercise and self-postural corrective exercise treatment (p = 0.00). Postural corrective exercise is more effective in improving FHP posture than self-postural corrective exercise (p = 0.00).Conclusion: Postural corrective exercise is more effective on posture improvement in students with FHP.

Abstract

AbstractStudents with sedentary lifestyles and hectic schedules are prone to fatigue and may see a decline in physical fitness, exacerbated by overweight and obesity. VO2 max reflects an individual's aerobic capacity. This study aims to examine the impact of burpees training compared to MICT on aerobic capacity in overweight and obese students. Method quasi-experimental approach, using pre- and post-test two-group design treatments. The sampling method employed purposive sampling. 22 people participated in the exercise program three times a week for four weeks. The study equipment utilized the Six Minute Walking Test (6MWT) is a measuring instrument for walking as far as possible in six minute with a path length of 15 meters, then calculated using the VO2 maz formula. Result a paired sample t-test, the results indicated that burpee training and MICT had an impact on the aerobic capacity of students who were overweight or obese (P=0.00 P<0.05). The independent sample t-test showed that burpees training and MICT affected the aerobic capacity of students with overweight and obesity conditions (P=0.16 P<0.05). Thus, burpees training has a greater impact on aerobic capacity in overweight and obese students compared to MICT, in future research can carry out further analysis regarding other, more varied exercise to increase aerobic capacity.
