Abstract

This research was prompted by students' lack of interest and motivation in writing news texts, their limited ability to compose such texts, an unsupportive learning environment, the use of less diverse teaching methods, and students' struggles to generate ideas and structure sentences into news texts. The research objectives include assessing the effectiveness of project-based learning in teaching news text writing to eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kedokan Bunder and evaluating student engagement in the learning process using this model. The research employed an experimental approach with a quasi-experimental design (nonequivalent control group design). Statistical analysis, using an independent samples t-test, yielded a t-value of 4.313, which exceeded the t-table value of 1.669, leading to the rejection of H0 and acceptance of H1. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the project-based learning model in teaching news text writing to eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kedokan Bunder. Additionally, observations in the experimental class revealed that students actively and effectively participated in the teaching and learning process using this model.

Abstract

The primary motivation for this study was the inadequate ability of students at SMK Negeri 1 Jatibarang Indramayu to analyze anecdotal texts and the challenges faced by teachers in developing effective learning models. The objectives of the research were to assess the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in teaching Grade X students how to analyze anecdotal texts and to outline the learning process. The study employed an experimental approach with a nonequivalent control group design. The research population consisted of all Grade X students, with Grade X AKL 1 (20 students) as the control group and Grade X AKL 2 (20 students) as the experimental group, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection involved written tests and observations. The t-test results revealed a t-value of 4.727, surpassing the t-table value of 2.024, indicating the acceptance of Ha and the rejection of Ho. This suggests that the Contextual Teaching and Learning model is effective in teaching the analysis of anecdotal texts. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Contextual Teaching and Learning model is successfully implemented in teaching Grade X students at SMK Negeri 1 Jatibarang during the 2022/2023 academic year. The analysis of observation data further demonstrates that the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning model enhances student engagement in the process of analyzing anecdotal texts for Grade X students at SMK Negeri 1 Jatibarang Indramayu in the 2022/2023 academic year.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji efektivitas media gambar dalam pembelajaran menulis teks anekdot pada siswa kelas X SMK PGRI Jatibarang. Media gambar berperan penting sebagai alat bantu interaktif yang mampu meningkatkan minat dan kreativitas siswa dalam menuangkan gagasan secara tertulis. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent control group. Sampel terdiri dari dua kelas: X AKL 2 (kelas eksperimen) dan X TKJ 2 (kelas kontrol), masing-masing 25 siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, pretest, dan posttest. Hasil pretest menunjukkan kemampuan awal kedua kelompok setara, dengan rata-rata nilai 61,80. Setelah pembelajaran, nilai posttest kelas eksperimen meningkat menjadi 83,00, sedangkan kelas kontrol 73,20. Uji-t menunjukkan adanya perbedaan signifikan antar kelompok. Kesimpulannya, media gambar efektif meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks anekdot siswa.
