Abstract

In the 21st century as the century of industrial revolution 4.0. demands that all components in the school, starting from the principal, teachers, education staff and students, be directed to develop their competencies on an ongoing basis. Innovation is the most important key in the industrial era 4.0 which requires educators to form their students with 21st century competencies, namely being able to think critically, creatively, collaboratively and communicatively. This research aims to determine the effect of the inquiry-based learning model on improving students’ 21st century skills in physics subjects in high school. In the current era, learning is no longer just monotonous learning but prioritizes 21st century skills, namely critical thinking skills, creative skills, communication skills and collaboration skills. This research is library research whose data comes from library sources, namely library research. This article was written using a comparative study method and content analysis. Comparative literature studies are carried out by examining bold primary literature, such as journals, research reports, activity reports, books, magazines, news media, and other sources that meet validity and reputation standards. Analysis carried out on relevant articles proves that the application of inquiry has a positive impact on student learning activities. It is known from the results of this literature study that the application of the inquiry learning model in teaching and learning activities has a positive influence on students’ 21st century skills in physics subjects in high school, namely critical thinking skills, creative skills, communication skills and collaboration skills.

Abstract

One of the impacts of rapid globalization is the need for education in Indonesia. The current educational challenge is that education must be able to produce human resources (HR) who are equipped with all the skills of the 21st century. The STEM approach to learning is a recommendation for improving 21st century abilities. The STEM approach is a learning approach that emphasizes the relationship between science knowledge and skills, technology, engineering, and mathematics to overcome problems. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of using the STEM approach for 21st century abilities. In this research, the Meta Analysis method is used with data analysis techniques for calculating effect sizes. The sample used in this research was 24 online article items that already had an ISSN. The results of the research that has been carried out can conclude that the STEM approach is efficiently used for 21st century abilities with the results of research data, namely; 1). The average effect size of the STEM approach on 21st century abilities is 1.6 on creative thinking, 2.78 on critical thinking, 4.94 on communication and 3.96 on collaboration; 2). The learning model that is most suitable for using a STEM approach to 21st century abilities is the blended learning model of 3.435 with the most appropriate material, namely business and energy material which has an average effect size of 6.24. 3). Based on the class level that effectively uses the STEM approach, namely high school class X with the very high category, it gets an effect size of 4.05.

Abstract

The research was conducted due to the lack of interesting learning media, thus making students' interest in physics subjects to study physics low and resulting in unsatisfactory student learning outcomes.  This research aims to develop digital student worksheets based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) on hydrostatic pressure material for grade XI high school. This research is a Research & Development (R&D) study using the ADDIE model which consists of stages (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subjects of this study were students of grade XI high school. The results of feasibility validity by experts analyzed with Aiken'V index obtained a result of 0.82 with a very feasible category.  The results of practicality by teachers 95% (very practical), students in small groups 90% (very practical), and large groups 86.44% (very practical) and in the effectiveness test obtained the results of the gain score of the difference between pretest and posttest scores showed an average in small groups of 0.76 while in large groups 0.77 with the effective category.  Based on this information, it is concluded that the PBL-based student worksheet on hydrostatic pressure material developed by researchers and tested at SMA Negeri 2 Binjai is feasible to use, very practical and effective. This PBL-based digital student worksheet on hydrostatic pressure material can be a reference for the development of similar teaching materials and can be teaching materials used in schools.
