Abstract

Abstract

The structure of the novel broken wings consists of ten parts that describe the stages of the "I" love journey. My character is a representation of the author, in another novel he calls himself "the Prophet". As if Kahlil Gibran did not want to part with the structure he created. The depiction of the figure I in each stage displays the dialectics of conflict between structures that form the theme of social inequality. The author examines the structure of the text in the novel broken wings as a thematic structure, the structure of the text is interpreted as social themes that shape social classes based on education and religion. The social reality of society in the novel of broken wings gives birth to binary opposition of social class based on education and religion. Social classifications based on education distinguish educated and barbarians, while classifications based on religion distinguish imams and worshipers. The novel of the broken wings positions the author's partisanship on the young man who fails to fight for his love due to the injustice wrapped up in religious dogma.

Abstract

History education has a strategic role in shaping character, national identity, and developing students' critical thinking skills. However, the dominance of the lecture method often results in students being less active in the critical thinking process. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in improving students' critical thinking skills in History subjects at SMK Muhammadiyah-Kalisat-Jember. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects of the study were 60 grade XI students who were divided into an experimental group (using the PBL model) and a control group (using conventional methods). Data collection was carried out through a critical thinking essay test based on Ennis indicators and analyzed using parametric statistical tests. The results showed a significant increase in critical thinking scores in the experimental group compared to the control group (p = 0.000). Therefore, the PBL model has proven effective in improving students' critical thinking skills and can be used as an alternative strategy for contextual and participatory history learning.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and describe the form of local knowledge reflected in language, which is manifested in the lingual units used in speech. Anthropolinguistics is an appropriate method for identifying the correlation between language and the cognitive and knowledge systems possessed by the Puger fishermen community. Lingual units in speech become a database as they become a means of storing, perpetuating and passing on a society's cognitive and knowledge systems. Ethnographic analysis of communication is used to obtain the socio-cultural contextuality behind the speech in the Puger fishermen community. The contextuality behind the birth of speech can provide appropriate ethnosemantic meaning in accordance with the socio-cultural perspective of the community. Ethnosemantic meaning produces a classification system that shows the ability of Puger fishermen to recognize patterns of change and determine patterns of natural phenomena that occur. This classification system is the basis for determining the form of local knowledge of the community. Based on the analysis of lingual data in speech, lingual units were obtained in the form of nouns and verbs in speech which describe the close correlation and intensity of their interaction with the sea. Local knowledge of Puger fishermen can be identified in the form of 1) knowledge about waves, 2) knowledge about water, 3) knowledge about fishing gear, and 4) knowledge about fishing techniques. Mastery of these knowledge determines accuracy and speed in making decisions to safeguard and maintain the continuity of their lives.
