Abstract

This library research critically examined the specific cognitive skills teachers need to create effective lesson plans using the CODE-PLAN model. The study explored how the dimensions of content, social context, and time interact to influence lesson planning and identified six key strands such as content transformation, task creation, adaptation to learning disposition, clarity of learning objectives, unit contextualization, and phasing. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive-analytical method and content analysis to analyze the data. The study aimed to highlight the cognitive demands essential for effective lesson planning. The findings suggest that applying the CODE-PLAN model could enhance teachers’ instructional practices, thereby improving educational quality and student learning outcomes. However, challenges in teacher training and resource limitations need to be addressed for successful implementation. Moreover, the research contributes to the field by providing a framework for understanding and improving the cognitive demands in lesson planning, potentially guiding curriculum design and teacher training programs. Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in education has created new opportunities for improving academic writing in higher education. This study investigates the utilization of Chat GPT, an artificial intelligence-powered conversational model, as a tool to assist in writing. Students who used Chat GPT for academic writing were interviewed using a qualitative approach and semi-structured interviews. The data research showed that Chat GPT provides consumers with information regarding its origins, advantages, and trustworthiness. Additionally, it is regarded as a valuable instrument for creating ideas and facilitating the writing process. Nevertheless, the study revealed both benefits and drawbacks associated with its utilization, emphasizing the importance for teachers to maintain a balance between its advantages and potential negatives. The outcomes offer a more profound comprehension of Chat GPT's function in academic writing and propose additional investigation to evaluate its enduring influence on students' writing abilities and rectify any partiality in AI-generated text

Abstract

This case study portrays the implementation of the English extensive program in Central Language Improvement (CLI) of an Indonesian Islamic Institution, English teacher’s strategies, and students’ perceptions of the program. The data were collected from the principal, a CLI member, an English teacher, and three students who won English competitions through observations, interviews, and documents analysis. The data were analyzed qualitatively using the framework proposed by Miles et al. (2014). The study shows several main findings: (1) the CLI is run by students with the principal and English teachers’ support, (2) the CLI contributes to the students’ communicative skills development, and (3) the CLI implements a modern Islamic boarding school-based curriculum. The findings also reveal the strategies used by the teacher for improving the students’ speaking skills are presenting grammar and vocabulary materials, conducting communicative activities, learning outside the school, and using English consistently to foster students’ engagement, using code-switching and code-mixing. The students perceive the CLI program is beneficial to increase their English and support their learning. One challenge was also revealed, as the habit of using English in the program affected their proficiency in Bahasa. The study contributes to the body knowledge in foreign language learning
