Abstract

Kata Kunci: Media Sosial, TikTok, Stereotip Etnik, Gen-Z, Madura ABSTRACT This article examines the phenomenon of the formation and reinforcement of negative stereotypes against the Madurese ethnic group through TikTok among Generation Z. Using mixed methods and a phenomenological approach, this research was conducted in Kamal District, Bangkalan Regency, and Lenteng District, Sumenep Regency. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews and questionnaires. The social construction theory of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann became the main analytical framework in this study. The results of this study show that TikTok plays a significant role in shaping and reinforcing negative stereotypes of ethnic Madurese among Generation Z, such as in the content produced by the accounts @FuadSasmitha and @Boger_Beak93meledak_Bum. Of the total 108 respondents in this study, 73 respondents or 67.9% agreed with the statement that TikTok content is currently the main source of reference for the formation of negative images and stereotypes of ethnic Madurese. Furthermore, the results of interviews with 20 informants in this study confirmed that negative stereotypes of the Madurese ethnic group also affect inter-ethnic relations, widen social distance, foster negative prejudice and discrimination against Madurese ethnic group. The findings of this study indicate that among Gen-Z TikTok is not just an entertainment platform, but also acts as a medium that influences negative social construction of certain ethnicities, with implications for weakening social cohesion and interethnic relations in society.  Keywords: Social Media, TikTok, Ethnic Stereotypes, Gen-Z, Madura
