Abstract

AbstractSince it was launched to the Indonesian public, the internet has continued to experience significant developments in the context of its use ranging from one-way communication systems via Web 1.0 to interactive communication systems mediated by Web 2.0 (social media). Abstract

Using a communication mediation model, the present study tested the influencing factor of social media utilization on the political engagement on social media. Through O-S-O-R model proposed by McLeod, Kosicki, and McLeod, this study tested the correlation between pre-exposure (motivation) – Stimulus (media social use) – post-exposure orientation (political efficacy) – Response (political engagement) in the context of Chinese youth of Singkawang. By analyzing the Pearson correlation and linear regression of 125 respondents collected through a questionnaire, this model resulted in several findings, for example, motivation had a relationship with the use of social media for political information purposes where social utility motives had a more significant effect than other motives. The use of political information media had an influence on an individual's internal and collective efficacy rather than external efficacy. Political efficacy generated by the use of social media had an influence on the political engagement of Singkawang Chinese youth even though external efficacy was deemed a negative predictor of political engagement.

The success of an event has an impact on improving the image of an institution. A good image of an institution affects public trust and can benefit the institution. One of the events held by the Sukoharjo Government Regency in creating its institutional image is the Sukoharjo Expo. The Sukoharjo Expo is an activity that carries the theme “Ekonomi Kerakyatan, Penggerak Kejayaan Ekonomi Nasional”. Abstract

Tourism plays a crucial role as a key driver of economic growth and national development, making the planning and promotion of this sector essential. This study aims to analyze the Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) strategies implemented by DISPORA in promoting tourism at the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir in the digital era. A qualitative approach was employed to illustrate the IMC strategies used to attract visitors. The findings of the study indicate that DISPORA's IMC strategy has been successful in building a strong brand image and attracting tourists through word-of-mouth marketing, social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook), and consistent messaging across channels. Notably, the use of social media as the primary platform has proven effective in capturing visitor interest through engaging visual content. However, the study also identifies weaknesses in sales promotion efforts, such as the lack of discounts and loyalty programs. To enhance the effectiveness of their campaign, it is recommended that DISPORA improve the quality of digital content, provide staff training on digital technology and social media, and collaborate with influencers to expand promotional reach.

Abstract

The use of news media is believed by most researchers to be proven to be able to influence people's political beliefs which then facilitate people's participation in the political process. Political trust in the government and other political institutions is a key indicator of public participation in the democratic process. Specifically, this research aims to test the extent to which media exposure to information regarding the Covid-19 virus outbreak influences people's political trust in one of the regions that has the highest rate of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia and is holding regional head elections during a pandemic. Apart from that, this research also tests whether there is a relationship between political trust and the level of electoral participation during a pandemic. By surveying 211 respondents, this research found several findings. First, even during a health crisis due to the Covid-19 virus outbreak and concerns about being exposed to the virus, the level of public participation in the 2020 Local Election tends to be high. Second, the use of information media affects people's political trust during the pandemic. Third, political trust resulting from exposure to media reports has a positive correlation with the level of public participation in the Regional Head Election during the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

The increasing number of victims caused by COVID-19 has driven the Indonesian government to implement policies for COVID-19 handling and prevention through various strategies, one of which is implementing health protocols. Advisory notices to follow health protocols were responded to by the public with multiple attitudes, such as compliance and rejection. Young people are believed to have low compliance and tend to ignore health behavior, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. By using the Elaboration Likelihood theoretical approach, this study aimed to identify the extent to which young people process adherence messages of health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic delivered by the Indonesian government. As many as 174 young people were surveyed and found that health protocols were applied through central dan peripheral channels simultaneously. The messages are conveyed elaborately in a simple and less critical matter.

First, the effect of the media is very strong in shaping the behavior of its audience. Second, the effect takes place dynamically where many factors interact variously shaping influence. Based on the result of the review, this article found that new media has great potential not only to mobilize, but also to expand political engagement and participation among young people in addition to other factors such as the cognition process, economics, and the political system of government, which also have an influence on media use which led to the engagement and participation of youth in politics.

Abstract

Inclusive education is an educational system that provides learning opportunities for all individuals, regardless of physical or mental abilities. Research has shown that deaf students face several challenges in the educational process, including insufficient support in accessing education, a lack of diverse learning methods, difficulties in social adaptation, and instructional procedures not tailored to their needs. This Community Service Activity (PKM) aims to identify the learning challenges faced by deaf students at Sahid University Surakarta and to evaluate the effectiveness of using the speech-to-text feature in Zoom Meetings as an alternative tool in the teaching and learning process. By conducting interviews and learning simulations using Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology with three deaf students of varying levels, this PKM activity found that ASR technology greatly assists deaf students in understanding lectures. However, the technology has limitations, such as its inability to translate intonation into appropriate punctuation, leading to dense, difficult-to-read text. As a result, a key challenge moving forward is for educators to learn how to adjust their intonation when delivering lectures to deaf students using ASR technology.

Abstract

The growing interest of young people in political issues has emerged as a significant focus in contemporary democratic discourse, particularly within the context of the digital era. Various discussions surrounding youth political engagement continue to generate compelling debates, underscoring the importance of understanding the extent of young people's interest in politics and the factors that shape it. This study explores the relationship between political information motivation and political participation among youth, with a particular emphasis on their involvement during the 2024 presidential election. As a crucial demographic group in shaping democratic processes, young individuals increasingly turn to digital platforms—primarily social media—to access diverse political information. Drawing upon the Uses and Gratification Theory and the Self-Determination Theory, this research examines the underlying factors that motivate youth to engage in political affairs. Employing a qualitative survey method with open-ended questions, the study involved 65 university students. The analysis reveals that young people are driven to access political information on social media by a range of motivations, including surveillance (the desire to stay informed about current political events), guidance (to understand political issues), entertainment (seeking entertainment in political issues), social utility (to support peer discussions and align with social conversations). Furthermore, the study finds that youth participation in electoral processes is primarily motivated by a sense of civic responsibility and a belief in the value of their contributions as young citizens—reflecting a form of self-determined political engagement. These findings highlight the importance of recognizing motivational and self-efficacy factors in fostering active, voluntary, and meaningful youth participation within Indonesia’s democratic landscape.
