Abstract

The act of welas asih or mercy is a necessity to create peace and harmony within Indonesia's multiculturalism. This article attempts to develop the concept of welas asih aiming to forgive the unforgivable which often occurred during the multicultural conflict as well as enhancing intercultural competence. The article overviews the face negotiation approaches in intercultural dialogue as a non-formal learning environment. The dialogue covers cultural conflict resolution in Indonesia, with a goal of intercultural competencies and building a better intercultural friendship. The research uses qualitative method and literature review analysis of related articles such as ethnicity conflict, face negotiation and forgiving. The result of this study shows that communication’s facework strategies in face negotiation are the best predictors in developing the act of welas asih. Total forgiveness after transgression is well accepted for establishing a better friendship-relationship. This discourse shows that the usage of face negotiation is essential in creating harmony, understanding cultural difference and eliminating prejudice within college students’ friendships

Abstract

In terms of obtaining information people nowadays depend on the use of social media such as Instagram due to its ease of access. This routine has also changed media institutions in disseminating information, which is through their social media account for audience engagement and news distribution to survive in the information technology era. This research focuses on news dissemination through Instagram on health communication. It was found that such means through Instagram caused a moral panic among the audience. The health issue put in the spotlight of this research is paracetamol and chronic kidney in children, actively reported in October-November 2023 in Indonesia. The result showed moral panic materialized from incomplete information due to limited sentences. Other factors are building personal assumptions, blaming other parties, to distortion of information. This study uses the netnographic method on Instagram posts on @kompascom social media news account. The research is carried out in several stages consisting of investigation, interaction, immersion, and integration. This was conducted to see the culture of social media users of the news account. The data consisted of 162 comments from 6 news posts on @kompascom.

Abstract

This UMKM juara program targets participants from entrepreneurs in West Java who are willing to commit to progress and development in the business sector. UMKM will move up a class and utilize technology in business, especially information technology for a wider market. Therefore, a digital public relations publication strategy is needed to produce messages that are easy to understand and effective in delivery to the public. This study aims to analyze the digital public relations strategy in the socialization of the UMKM juara program at the West Java Provincial Cooperative and Small Business Service (DISKUK). This study is a qualitative study using primary data sources, namely the DISKUK JABAR public relations staff. The Instagram account and DISKUK JABAR technical guidelines are secondary data sources. The primary data are the results of interviews with the DISKUK JABAR public relations department. Secondary data is the uploads from the DISKUK JABAR Instagram account. This study used a digital public relations strategy from Holtz (2009) which includes the goals, strategy, objectives, and tactics. The results of the study show that DISKUK JABAR has implemented a digital public relations strategy. The SWOT results show that the stages of the digital public relations strategy have been implemented. Meanwhile, the digital public relations strategy that is still lacking is the strategy and objective stage. This is due to the lack of socialization in activities regarding the accompanying curriculum and the limited human resources in monitoring and evaluation assistance. Therefore, it can cause the implementation of the UMKM Juara program to be less effective

Abstract

Technological developments have changed the way humans handle conflict. Face-to-face communication has become the least used method of conflict resolution. Nowadays, conflict resolution is established through mediated communication, one of which is the social media Instagram. This research uses a qualitative approach and attempts to explain the role of Instagram in mediating interpersonal communication processes to resolve conflicts related to gender issues. @poppyrahardjo's Instagram Live session was used as a corpus in this research. The research results show that interpersonal communication mediated by Instagram Live can provide space for communicators to open up and establish a similar perception of their opinions on gender issues. There are three stages to establishing a similar perception, discourse development, openness process, and perception equality process.

Abstract

Karang Taruna is a youth organization in society which is used as a place for the growth and development of the young generation, which is based on awareness and social responsibility in society in the local area. In interacting between humans, good communication is certainly needed so that the message we want to convey to the person we are talking to can be received and easily understood. The method of this service is lecture and discussion. The informants or subjects in this service are members of the youth organization who are residents of Dukuh Brajan, Sindon Village. The result of this service is that public speaking outreach can provide benefits for the young people of Dukuh Brajan in forming and developing themselves. The conclusion from the service carried out by the author is that public speaking outreach can be an effort to develop the potential of the young people of Dukuh Brajan

Abstract

The increasing number of victims caused by COVID-19 has driven the Indonesian government to implement policies for COVID-19 handling and prevention through various strategies, one of which is implementing health protocols. Advisory notices to follow health protocols were responded to by the public with multiple attitudes, such as compliance and rejection. Young people are believed to have low compliance and tend to ignore health behavior, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. By using the Elaboration Likelihood theoretical approach, this study aimed to identify the extent to which young people process adherence messages of health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic delivered by the Indonesian government. As many as 174 young people were surveyed and found that health protocols were applied through central dan peripheral channels simultaneously. The messages are conveyed elaborately in a simple and less critical matter.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the public relations strategy of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta in promoting the flagship International Class program. The research method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using Kotler's communication strategy theory (Push Strategy, Pull Strategy, and Pass Strategy) and SWOT analysis. The results showed that the communication strategy implemented by the Public Relations of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta has succeeded in increasing the brand awareness of the International Class program among the community. This success is supported by the use of social media, cooperation with foreign institutions, and innovative programs to attract students. This study found some shortcomings in the applied communication strategy. In Pull Strategy, the utilization of social media such as TikTok is still less than optimal, so the promotional reach is limited. In Push Strategy, the excellent facilities provided have not been fully utilized evenly by students. Meanwhile, in the Pass Strategy, cooperation with outside institutions has been carried out, but its sustainability and real impact still need to be further evaluated.

Abstract

This research analyzes the communication model of Sragen Regency Government Public Relations in celebrating the 278th Sragen Anniversary based on Grunig and Hunt's theory. The research objective was to identify the application of four communication models: Press Agentry, Public Information, Two-Way Asymmetrical, and Two-Way Symmetrical. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the three models-Press Agentry, Public Information, and Two-Way Symmetrical-have been effectively implemented in disseminating information and building relationships with the community. However, the Two-Way Asymmetrical model is still not optimal in building research-based and persuasive communication. The implications of this research emphasize the need to improve the government's communication strategy to better understand the audience and adjust a more effective communication strategy.

Abstract

Public Relations (PR) has a strategic role in building a positive image of an institution. This study aims to analyze the role of public relations of Tirtonadi Type A Terminal in the implementation of branding. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the public relations of Tirtonadi Type A Terminal carried out four main roles, namely as a communicator, relationship builder, back-up management, and good image maker. However, there are still challenges in the consistency of communication strategies and the image of the terminal in the community. SWOT analysis shows the need for improvement in social media management and public services to improve the terminal's image.
