Abstract

Anemia is a worldwide public health issue that affects various groups in low, middle, and high-income nations. Anemia is linked to pregnancy and is influencing poor cognitive and motor development outcomes in children. A recommended intervention to reduce anemia prevalence during pregnancy is the universal administration of Iron-Folic Acid (IFA) supplements. This study investigated supports and barriers regarding iron-folic acid supplementation adherence levels in pregnant women recorded in public health centers in Malang, Indonesia. This research was conducted using qualitative methods with in-depth interviews using semi-structured open-ended questions from July to September 2023. Twenty-five participants from four public health centers was included. The interview guide's content was developed using World Health Organization’s framework as well as other pertinent themes. Data analysis was processed from verbal record transcription, generating the codes into the outcomes. Five main themes with a total of eleven subthemes were highlighted from interview process. These themes was further classified into barriers and supports. Side effect, forgetfulness, boredom, laziness, and insufficient understanding of disease recorded as barriers. In contrast, husband and family support, health care team motivation, affordability of access, knowledge and education background included in supports. These findings enlighten the barriers encountered by the pregnant women in IFA supplementation adherence. However, the effectiveness of treating anemia during pregnancy might be influenced by fundamental elements that support IFA supplementation adherence. Therefore, to tackle the this issue, the pregnant women requires a proper therapy and all key points mentioned in support group must be applied.

Abstract

Abstract

Schizophrenia has a high psychosocial burden and environmental influences cause an increase in patient mortality. Management of schizophrenia can be done using two methods, namely pharmacological therapy and non-pharmacological therapy. Positive symptoms can be controlled with pharmacological therapy using antipsychotic medication. After treatment of positive symptoms, negative symptoms are likely to persist. Antipsychotics are the primary therapy for schizophrenia sufferers. Risperidone is known to be the first line for schizophrenia sufferers because of the mild reactions it causes. The therapy received by schizophrenia patients, either monotherapy or in combination, has an effect on the symptoms that appear in the patient. This study aims to evaluate the pattern of antipsychotic therapy given in relation to the symptoms that appear after being given therapy. It is known that at the Jombang Regional Hospital Mental Health Polytechnic there are patients with various mental disorders and most of them are schizophrenic sufferers with a low level of public awareness so they do not know the symptoms they are experiencing. The inclusion criteria in this study were patients diagnosed with schizophrenia who received the antipsychotic risperidone alone or in combination with other antipsychotics in the period January-December 2021. Data analysis used the Chi-square test to see the relationship between the administration of risperidone therapy patterns and the symptoms that appeared in patients. After the analysis was carried out, the results showed that the risperidone therapy pattern had no relationship with the symptoms that appeared after therapy. This can be caused by several factors including individual factors.

Abstract

Insufficient public knowledge about appropriate medication use, storage, and disposal practices poses significant health risks and environmental hazards. This community service program sought to enhance understanding of the Dagusibu concept (obtain, use, store, dispose) among PKK mothers in Bumi Mondoroko Raya, Singosari, Malang. The intervention employed pre-test questionnaires, interactive presentations, and question-and-answer sessions involving 13 participants. Pre-test findings revealed substantial misconceptions: eight participants (62%) perceived paracetamol solely as an antipyretic, four participants (31%) deemed household waste disposal acceptable for all expired medications, and three participants (23%) believed antibiotics were available for purchase at local stalls. Following the educational intervention and discussion sessions, participants demonstrated accurate identification of paracetamol's multiple therapeutic indications, appropriate disposal protocols for expired medications, and prescription requirements for antibiotic acquisition. The program successfully enhanced community knowledge regarding rational medication use and household pharmaceutical management. Educational leaflets were disseminated as follow-up materials, with plans established for ongoing monitoring of household medication storage practices.
