Abstract

Abstract

FT-IR spectrum analysis of sago bark waste extract (Metroxylon sagu Rottb L.) which was extracted using deep eutectic solvents (DES) Choline Chloride-Oxalic Acid (Oxaline) has been conducted. DES synthesis was carried out by stirring a number of constituent masses according to the molar ratio at 600 rpm while heating at 60°C. The variation in the molar ratio of DES Oxaline constituents applied were 1:1; 1:1.5; 1:2 and 1:4. Extraction of sago bark waste was carried out by 30 minutes sonication of sago bark waste powder with DES Oxaline solvent at 50W. The sonication results were then centrifuged at 4000 rpm for 35 minutes. The residue was obtained from centrifuge filtration using 1μm filter paper. The synthesized DES Oxaline and its residues were analyzed using FT-IR spectrometry. DES Oxaline which was successfully synthesized were molar ratios of 1:1; 1:1.5 and 1:2. The yield of sago bark waste extracted were 66%; 66% and 62% for 1:1 molar ratio; 1:1.5 and 1:2 respectively. FT-IR spectrum analysis showed that the functional groups of Choline Chloride and Oxalic Acid are depicted in the IR spectrum of Oxaline DES. The residue spectrum analysis stated that the majority of functional groups were representative of lignin.

Abstract

Lignin is a component of crude fiber found in sago stems and is difficult to degrade. The aim is to compare lignolytic bacteria in sago pith, wet sago flour, and sago hampas in three (3) layers of waste piles. Samples were obtained from a traditional sago factory in Palopo City. Lignolytic bacteria were isolated using an M9 minimum agar supplemented with 1% lignin. The research parameters were the total lignolytic bacteria and the number of different colonies in each sample. The results showed that the most lignolytic bacteria and different colonies were found in the sago pith and the least in the middle layer of the sago hampas pile. The research results conclude that the sago pith can be an alternative source of lignolytic bacterial isolates. However, the ability of these lignolytic bacteria still needs to be tested and selected to obtain potential isolates.

Abstract

A research study aimed at evaluating the efficacy and determining the optimal dosage of cocoa pod shell compost fertilizer for enhancing the growth and production of yellow pepper plants in the lowland was conducted. This research was carried out at Experimental Field II, Faculty of Agriculture, Cokraminoto University, Palopo, located on Jalan Lamaranginang, Batu Pasi Village, North Wara District, Palopo City, from July to October 2023. The experimental design employed was Randomized Block Design, encompassing six treatments with four replications. The level treatments used were designed as follows: P0 (no treatment), P1 (135 gr cocoa husk compost and 100 ml/L of liquid organic fertilizer of mexican lilac), P2 (185 gr cocoa husk compost and 150 ml/L of liquid organic fertilizer of mexican lilac), P3 (235 gr cocoa husk compost and 150 ml/L of liquid organic fertilizer of mexican lilac + 200 ml/L of liquid organic fertilizer (gamal), P4 (cocoa pod husk compost 285 gr and liquid organic fertilizer of mexican lilac 250 ml/L, P5 (cocoa pod husk compost 335 gr and liquid organic fertilizer of mexican lilac 300 ml/L).  The parameters observed included plant height, flowering age, number of flowers, number of fruit, fruit weight and fruit diameter. Upon conducting research and data analysis, it was revealed that the P3 treatment exerted a highly significant effect on the parameters of fruit weight (449.78 grams).  Conversely, P3 demonstrated no significant impact on the parameters of the number of fruits (4.00), fruit diameter (135.20 cm), plant height (39.38 cm), number of flowers (7.88 florets) and flowering age (34.63 HST). In light of these findings, it is recommended to consider an increase in the dosage of cocoa pod husk compost and liquid organic fertilizer (Mexican lilac) to optimize the growth and production of yellow bell pepper plants in subsequent research endeavors

Abstract

Waste deposits from sago (Metroxylon sagu L. Rottb.) starch extraction from sago trunks in Palopo City, Luwu Regency, North Luwu Regency and East Luwu Regency which are part of the Tana Luwu region are quite abundant. Many studies on the utilization of liquid waste from this process have been published. In contrast, the utilization of solid waste has not been widely carried out. In addition, studies on the identification of compounds from the extraction of sago bark waste using environmentally friendly solvents such as deep eutectic solvent (DES) are still minimal. The DES used was DES Choline Chloride-Oxalic Acid with a mole ratio of 1:2. The success of DES synthesis was confirmed by FT-IR. Extraction was carried out using the sonication method for 30 minutes at 50 W, room temperature, with a ratio of 80 mesh sago bark to DES of 1:10 (g/ml). The extract was filtered with filter paper with a pore diameter of 2.5 µm. Screening of compounds in the filtrate through GC-MS analyses. DES was successfully synthesized while still showing the main functional groups. GC-MS analysis of the filtrate showed that there were 8.36% squalene-like compound; 5.37% n-hexadecanoic acid-like compound and other compounds (with solvent exception) contained ≤1%.
