Abstract

In the era of globalization, seller-buyer transactions happened a lot on Instagram's social media platform. A register is a language variation that is usually used in the seller-buyer transaction. This study aimed to analyze the register in Instagram used in a beauty product by examining the linguistic form that is viewed from the register variable situation and understanding the meaning of register in a beauty product. This research uses qualitative research by collecting the data, analyzing the data, analyzing the context, and identifying the data. The object of this research is an Instagram account by guardian_id that was taken in February-March 2020. Based on the analysis, the researcher found 20 data with two types of linguistic form, the unstable situation of register that is field, tenor, mode, and two types of meaning in the register.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were conducted to find the registerial representation implied in Karonese mantra text in erpangir ku lau, and to discover the registerial representation in the karonese mantra text. This research was conducted by descriptive qualitative method. The finding of this study showed that the registerial reprsentaion are implied in karonese mantra text in Erpangir ku lau were Field, tenor and Mode. Field is realization of experiential meanings; these experiential meaning are realized through transitivity pattern, from 6 kinds of total process in transitivity there is only five types were implied in karonese mantra text, they were material, relational ,mental, verbal and behavioral process in this text. the tenor is the realization of Interpersonal meanings; these interpersonal meaning through the mood, there just 2 kinds from 3 total mood that found in karonese mantra text, they were declarative and imperative. In Mode that realizes in Theme pattern found that all of 4 types in Theme were implied in this text. This theory also related to the register language, the Frozen and formal discovered in karonese mantra text.

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the types of interpersonal function in Hamiton and focuses on Halliday and Matthiessen’s (2004) perspective of interpersonal function applied in Hamilton Lyrics. and how the interpersonal function realized in Hamilton Lyrics. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative methode. The source of the data were taken from collected by watching streaming platforms such as Disney+ Hotstar, one of which is dedicated to Disney films. The technique for analyzing the data is qualitative research. The results of this research showed the classifying of data from Hamilton Lyrics selected song lyrics, also analyzing the mood structure regarding the most and residue. It was found there were 171 clauses in the Hamilton Lyrics, with the mood types and residue, 57 clauses were from the first lyrics in Hamilton Lyrics entitled Alexandre Hamilton, 80 clauses from the second in Hamilton Lyrics entitled Satisfied, and 34 clauses are from Hamilton Lyrics entitled You’ll Be Back. The classification are : 136 clauses of Declarative Mood, 27 clauses of Imperative Mood, and 8 clauses of Interrogative Mood. The researcher concluded that the analyzed and classified the Hamilton Lyrics based on the order of subject and finite to find the mood types and modality in each clause. The interpersonal function analysis was described and provided the examples of how that sentence categorized into the specific mood types and residue.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop learning media for writing analytical exposition text by using Adobe Flash Professional CS5 for the eleventh students of SMA Swasta Nurul Amaliyah Tanjung Morawa. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering data and information, analyzing data, designing media, validating by the experts, revising and final products. The subject of the study was grade XI of SMA Swasta Nurul Amaliyah Tanjung Morawa. The data were gathered by administering interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 30 respondents to get the students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire result proved that the students need a learning media in teaching writing which can help the students to understand about the analytical exposition text. The learning media of Adobe Flash Prrofessional CS5 was validated by experts. The average score is 4.62. It means the developed learning media by using Adobe Flash Professional CS5 is relevant or appropriate and categorized as a very good learning media for students at SMA Swasta Nurul Amaliyah Tanjung Morawa.  Keywords: Research and Development (R&D), Adobe Flash Professional CS5, Analytical Exposition Text

Abstract

This research investigated the reason why the teachers did manipulation in teaching. The study applied qualitative descriptive method. The participants of the research were three teachers that have different background. The techniques for collecting data were through recording three teachers in teaching descriptive text elements and interviewing three teachers. There are some reasons found why teachers manipulate because of presage variable such as teaching experience, belief in their skill in knowledge, belief in their skill in teaching that can influence process variable. It also influenced by context variable such as the students are lack of interest, less motivation and have different background that can support them to learn English and both variables also influence process variable as teaching process does not run well because in process there were students’ weakness, students’ minimal response even they did not give response and feedback in teaching process.

Abstract

This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. It was concerned with the description of data in the form of utterances by the main character in The Last of us part 2 Video Game (2020). In conducting this research, the researcher (1) found out the types of language function in The Last of us part 2 Video Games. (2) described the realization types of language function in The Last of us part 2 Video Games. In the application of the language function, the last of us part 2 video games utterances used Jakobson’s theory. The result showed first, that most dominant type of language function in Jakobson’s theory is Expressive Function with (37%). The percentage directive function is (32%). The percentage Metalinguistic function is (20%). The lowest percentage in language function that Referential function is (11%). Second, The realization of language function described, such as : Expressive Function, that is action from another character make a feeling to main character, for example : (Jesus! You almost gave me heart attack, Fuck!, Gotcha!!, Just banged up!), Directive Function, is about attempt to get someone to do something. For example: (You better run little shit1, Run Dina!, No!, okay!), Referential function, is the communication of information, for example (oh, there’s the ski lodge, that’s the one on Tommy and Joel’s route), Metalinguistic function explain about the answer is code itself, for example: (just another evacuated neighborhood).

Abstract

This study aims to examine the kinds of politeness strategy uttered by the main characters in Mulan (2020) and the different politeness strategies used by the main characters to the others characters within the movie. Qualitative textual analysis methods were applied in collecting the data of this study. The data were obtained from the script and movie Mulan (2020). Furthermore, the data were classified based on their types of politeness and also based on the different politeness used by the main characters. This study was conducted using Brown and Levinson (1987) theory. The analysis revealed that the main characters in the movie Mulan applied four strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson with the total of bald on record (9), positive politeness (14), negative strategies (6) and off record (2). Regarding to the types of politeness, Mulan as the main character consistently tends to use positive politeness strategies in her utterances throughout the movie. The different politeness strategies used by the main characters to the other characters is Mulan often use bald on record and positive politeness strategy when she talks to her family. When she talks to her friends and neighbor, Mulan often use positive politeness strategy. The last is when Mulan talks to the emperor, she used negative politeness strategy.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an Android-based application as a learning medium for student exercises containing audio on popular cultures to practice their English listening skills. This research method used research and development with the ADDIE model, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data was collected using a questionnaire for validators. A questionnaire was used to collect data for the application, material, and learning practitioner. In the development stage, the validators declare that this product was very valid and practical. It was shown that the scores given by the English lecturers were 91,4 and 90,4, and the Programmer validator gave it 94. Meanwhile, the average score collected from the practical sheet was 90. After the digital listening application was revised and evaluated, this product was stated as effective, showing that 4 students were in the B2-Upper Intermediate level, 12 students are in C1-Advance, 8 students were in C2-Proficient and no more students in the intermediate level. This app was appropriate for students to use as a platform to practice their listening skills outside the class.
