Abstract

With urban development and rapid growth, the challenge of land capability to accommodate urbanization is becoming increasingly complex. Therefore, the concept of a "vertical city" has surfaced, indicating the importance of integrating sustainable development with spatial and building height restrictions. This study aimed to analyze the land capability of Bukittinggi City in relation to building height control. The methodology adopted adhered to the Ministry of Public Works Regulation Number 20/PRT/M.200 and relevant literature, using the scoring and overlay method with ArcGIS tools. The analysis results showed that the majority of Bukittinggi's area had a relatively high level of land capability, with a significant portion covering 71.3% of the total territory. Moreover, most buildings adhered to the land capability, even though seven unsuitable buildings were identified. These results served as a crucial basis for making informed decisions regarding land use and fostering sustainable urban development.

Abstract

River borders are natural areas that need to maintain their primary function but currently tend to change into artificial areas, which are used for human activities and building construction. Limited urban land and economic factors are likely the causes of people building in river border areas. This study aims to analyze the function of buildings that are not by the use of space on river borders so that they can be used as a reference for controlling spatial planning. Building and river data are needed to assess the level of consistency and inconsistency of buildings in river border areas. The level of inconsistency is calculated based on the number of buildings located in the river border area divided by the number of buildings outside the river border. The results of the building consistency index analysis of 0.87 indicate that the majority of buildings in Padang City tend to be outside the river border area. However, there are still many buildings that are inconsistent with land use regulations, namely those located in river border areas. The Sungai Pisang watershed is recorded as the most erratic, even though it has the fewest buildings. On the other hand, although the Batang Arau watershed has the largest number of buildings, it shows a lower inconsistency value than the Sungai Pisang watershed and Air Timbulun watershed.

Abstract

West Pasaman Regency, located in West Sumatra Province, faces a high risk of coastal disasters such as extreme waves and coastal abrasion. This study focuses on Muaro Sasak Beach, an area with increasing environmental degradation due to wave action and sedimentation. The aim of this research is to analyze spatial disaster threats and formulate mitigation strategies using risk-based assessments. The study applies a composite index model based on BNPB (2020) guidelines and Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) to map threats and prioritize actions. Results indicate that 50.11% of the 563.52-hectare coastal zone is at high risk. The ISM framework identifies ecosystem restoration and risk mapping as top-priority strategies, followed by structural protections and land use policies. This research provides evidence-based recommendations to support disaster management planning in coastal areas of Pasaman Barat.
